This is a brillaint book if you want good chemistry experiments that can actually be done with things that are available in a normal science prep-room. This book will tell you how to do some of the experiments that the slightly unhinged chemistry teacher did when you were at school. I've used it loads of times already. The pages are really easy to follow and photocopy. God bless The Royal Society of Chemistry for publishing this!

This is a book of practicals that a GCSE Chemistry teacher might use to help him (or her) illustrate a particular point. It's thoroughly written, and has a good variety of organic, inorganic and physical practicals (all of which have safety warnings witten into them, where necessary), but a good Science teacher might be surprised by how many he knew already.

It's also worth noting that it has a variety of instruction materials that the students could use to tell them how to perform the practical, but they aren't always of a consistent quality and are in a bound book, which might make them hard to copy.

Finally, the book is almost 12yrs old, so you might feel that it's a little out of date now.

Useful guide full of chemistry experiments for teachers. Handy and easy to use, can photocopy practical sheets for students and has useful tips for teachers also.

hands-on science 10 Aug 2002

The only inconvenience I find is that the experiments
are written from the teacher point of view. But a lot
(or all) of them can be used in self-teaching or just
for fun; that should be remarked.
I write from Europe, where science manuals are been
replaced by Science divulgation, which librarians
classify between "religion" and "self-help". In this
ambience, books as this one give a refreshing air. We
need more of this.
