There are few cars that attract such iconic status as the Citroen 2 CV.
First produced in 1949 the car enjoyed worldwide production for over 50 years. It was technologically advanced and innovative, but with extremely utilitarian and deceptively simple Bauhaus inspired bodywork, that belied the sheer quality of its underlying engineering. It was designed to move the French peasantry on from horses and carts.
Over 1 million 2 CVs. were manufactured during the life of this remarkable vehicle and this programme charts the history of one of the 20th century's most recognizable modes of transport.

If, as I did, you buy this DVD expecting to be treated to a visual history of the 2CV showing the development of the car in all it's different guises, you will be sadly disappointed. Instead, it concentrates on the reminiscences of the founder of the 2CV Club of Orleans accompanied by seemingly endless clips of flickery, black and white home movies - fascinating as an insight into the antics of early 2CV owners, but hardly a celebration of a car which was in continuous production for fifty-odd years. What a missed opportunity to tell the story of this unique little car!
