Product Description

DISC 1 SIDE A NIGHT TRAIN FOR INVERNESS starring NORMAN WOOLAND, JANE HYLTON and DENNIS WATERMAN directed by ERNEST MORRIS Ex-convict Roy Lewis (Norman Wooland) heads to London to see his estranged wife Ann (Silvia Francis) and 7-year-old son Ted (Dennis Waterman) but despite Ann's wish to see Roy, her mother tells him they want nothing to do with a jailbird. Frustrated by a lack of access to his son, Roy kidnaps Ted and takes the night train to Inverness for a new life in Scotland. Unbeknown to Roy, Ted is a diabetic and without regular insulin injections his son's health is in serious danger and the panic sets in to find the urgent medical attention needed. DISC 1 SIDE B THE PURSUERS starring CYRIL SHAPS, FRANCIS MATTHEWS and SUSAN DENNY directed by GODFREY GRAYSON In the dark and uncertain time following the end of World War Two, many men suspected of war crimes within the German Army attempted to blend into civilian life by assuming different names, occupations and fleeing to other countries. 12 years later these men had made new lives and carved out new careers but evil secrets have a way of rearing their ugly heads, especially when a dedicated group of Nazi hunters are on your trail. Where can you run when you have nowhere to hide? DISC 2 SIDE A RETURN OF A STRANGER starring JOHN IRELAND, SUSAN STEPHEN and CYRIL SHAPS directed by MAX VARNEL The serene life of Pam and John Allen is rocked to its core when a mysterious man begins stalking their every move with late night phone calls, sudden appearances and sinister behaviour. It transpires that the man, Homer Trent, was a part of Pam's early life when she was brought up at an orphanage and has spent the last few years in prison for her rape. Now free, Trent is intent on taking back what he believes to be his property Pam. DISC 2 SIDE B STRIP TEASE MURDER starring JOHN HEWER, ANN LYNN and JEAN MUIR directed by ERNEST MORRIS When a stripper collapses and dies on stage at the famous Flamingo Club, her death is quickly attributed to 'natural causes' but her husband and fellow club employee Bert suspects there were very 'unnatural' forces at work. In order to get the police involved Bert must find evidence of foulplay but clues are hard to find when everybody has something to hide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Print quality could have been better..... 28 April 2013

This box-set contains two double-sided discs, each holding one film on each side.

I enjoyed all four of these short British movies, (each averaging 60-65 minutes), but it's a shame that little, if any, work has been done to restore each print. "The Pursuers" is probably the best quality, but "Return of a Stranger" and "Strip Tease Murder" are more VHS-quality than DVD. And "Night Train for Inverness", I would say, is even a little below VHS quality. You'll spot scratches in places in all four films and, in "Return of a Stranger", some less than seamless editing!

But overall I'm glad to have seen these little bits of cinematic history. I'm particularly fascinated by the cars of this era, and even more so by the largely empty roads of the period - if only it were they were like that now......

FOUR different stories each with a story to tell. Night Train for Inverness, You might spot a very young Dennis Waterman in this one, he is one of the main characters. All about a father who just out of prison wants to see his son, the mother wants him to but the mother in law is desperately doing all she can to try to stop him, so the father hatches a PLAN TO TAKE HIM AWAY, AS THE TITLE SUGGESTS Scotland's THE ONLY WAY TO. I'll LEAVE YOU TO FIND THE TWIST IN THE TALE. recommended TO FRIENDS WHO'VE SEE IT WITH ME. each OF THE FOLLOWING STORIES ARE REAL CLASSICS WHICH EACH HAVE A REAL SENSE OF THE TIME PERIOD THEY WERE SET IN,
