Though this is a new publication it is in many ways a revised version of the author's "1,001 Best Slow Cooker Recipes" of two years ago. The good news is that the American measures of the earlier book have been replaced with metric and imperial weights and measures, and the style is less American. It remains devoid of photographs. I have no problem with this for it means, other things being equal, more recipes and a lower price. However, among a thousand recipes there are inevitably some that seem pointless. For example, "pork sandwiches" consists of instructions on how to cook a joint of pork and then slice it to put in a burger or slices of bread. There are a number of recipes for making bread. I have no doubt that some will take pleasure in using a slow cooker for this but I shall stick to my breadmaker.

Though the recipes aim more directly at a British audience than the earlier book they would still appeal to America's Lieutenant Columbo of TV drama fame for there are no fewer than 143 references to chilli. There are also more chowder recipes than one would normally see in a British book but there is no mention of pigeon, rabbit, hare, grouse and partridge. I can understand this because many other cookery books omit them, but neither is there any reference to duck, pheasant or venison and I would expect these to be in a book for Brits, particularly as the last two are well suited to slow cooking.

The book circumvents the problem that some slow cookers have medium or auto settings in addition to low and high by using only low and high. Though this book does not tick all my boxes it has many positive features, including a useful introduction on using slow cookers and good sections on soups and vegetarian dishes.

If you're looking for the only slow cooker recipe book you'll ever need, stop here, you've found it! At £8.99 I thought it was a little pricey in comparison with many of the other slow cooker books out there,especially since I only paid a tenner for the slow cooker itself.. but after a year, I can honestly say it was money well spent!

There are so many recipes, that you just cannot go wrong. The only downside is that some of the recipes are pretty much duplicates of one another, but with different names, however, in a book of that volume it doesn't really make much difference, as there's still plenty to choose from. Yes, there are some recipes that aren't slow cooker recipes at all, but are nevertheless useful, and compliment the other recipes perfectly. For me, the biggest plus point for this book is that only a small fraction of the recipes suggest that one does any kind of pre cooking or browning, mince beef they suggest you brown quickly to stop it clumping, and joints of meat to sear first to lock in flavour. The bulk of the recipes allow you to simply prep the ingredients, throw them in the pot and turn the dial...job done.

There are recipes from all parts the world,which include among others, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, French, and if you want good old plain English. Another good thing I noticed was, that throughout the book the recipes aren't full of expensive or obscure ingredients..mainly stuff you're likely to have in your store cupboard or fridge, or you could pick up easily from the supermarket. There's recipes for soups, stews, starters, desserts, mains, and umpteen vegetarian choices.

My slow cooker came with a mini recipe booklet which had some very good suggestions in it, but once I'd tried them all, I naturally wanted some more ideas.

A handy book to have, but like all cook books these days, this one is chock full of fancy recipes. If you prefer simple cooking then this book might disappoint. The whole point of slow cookers is to make life easier for busy people, without messing about with the preparation.

This is definitely the best slow cooker book on the market. It is so comprehensive, you will never need to purchase any other book! It really is fabulous. The only thing I miss is that there are no pictures, but if you want a book that will give you every slow cook recipe imaginable then this is the one for you. I absolutely love love it, and have cooker several meals from it with great success.

Have also recently purchased a Cuisinart 6.5 litre slow cooker, and I must say although it was expensive is the best slow cooker on the market. I tried Morphy Richards - burn the food; a Crock Pot - again burn the food, and then Lakeland,but the outer container handle just broke off for no apparent reason. I did quite a lot of research before buying another one. I particularly love the timer and keep warm facility on the Cuisinart, and if anyone is thinking of buying a slow cooker then I can heartily recommend the 6.5 litre one. I freeze a lot of the left overs because we are only two at home, and then there is a ready cooked meal in the freezer!

This particular cook book gives recipes for everything from soups, mains, vegetarian, dessert, cakes and drinks as well as cooking whole joints of meat and poultry. I would say this book is a 'must buy cookbook' because it is so comprehensive. You will not regret buying it. It is superb!!
