Book Description

2 Aug 2011
Now in paperback, the first adult novel by the author of the successful Gossip Girl series. Gossip Girl goes to college in this tart satire, centering on four mixed-up freshmen who stumble through their first semester trying on life, love, and drugs. There's pretty rich girl Shipley, rebel-without-a-cause Eliza, repressed-artist Tom, and hippie-spawn Nick. With a population of only nineteen hundred, Dexter was a small college in a small town, but it still felt overwhelming compared to high school, the kids discover, but really scary is the newfound freedom-from families, histories, and their adolescent identities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just to clarify... 2 Jan 2012

This book is amazing but don't get confused as it is the same book as "Cum Laude." I thought it was a sequel so I bought it and then realized it's the same book just with a different title/cover. If you love Gossip Girl you will love this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Forgettable, but fun 29 Oct 2012
By Tez Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
CLASS was originally published as CUM LAUDE, but retitled for obvious reasons - for eejits like me who don't know Latin or university stuff, and giggle at certain filthy-sounding words. We can all agree that CLASS is a much better title.

This is a standalone, but at first it's difficult not to be reminded of Cecily von Ziegesar's famous GOSSIP GIRL series. Shipley Gilbert is such a Serena, and she's kind of boring compared to the other characters. Her roommate Eliza is much sparkier, often greeting Shipley with, "Hey, Slutcakes." And Tragedy Gatz has personality galore.

The real humour comes from the male characters: Tom's adventures in ecstasy, ether, art, and acting are hilarious, and Nick's pot-smoking yurt haven is pretty funny, too.

It's a forgettable novel, but fun while it lasts.

P.S. Why is the story set in 1992?

1.0 out of 5 stars Booray! 11 Dec 2012
By Mimi - Published on Amazon.com
I have read the entire Gossip Girl series and I was absolutely glued to the novels. I could not put them down. I picked this up expecting it to be just as good if not better. However, I was very sadly disappointed. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
