Buy this book!, 21 Feb 2004
This review is from: Clash City Showdown (Paperback)
When I started reading Clash City Showdown I wasn't 100% sure what to expect, the basis of the book is writings from Chris Knowles that were orginally posted on the CCS website. Each of them covers Chris's own personal thoughts on various aspects of the Clash, their music, the personalities and their breakup. Accompanying it are loads of excellent cartoons by the man himself - some of which are hilarious.
If you are a Clash fan you NEED to buy this book - it is written by a fan for fans - not a journo in sight. And it will get you asking questions, tutting and sometimes arguing which Chris's comments - but that's the fun of it. But most of all it will get you wanting to put Sandinista!, The Clash, Give Em Enough Rope and even, possibly, (well maybe not) Cut The Crap - back on the record player and re-live it all again.
The Clash were the only rock group that mattered - and this is definitely one of the only books about them that matters! Buy it now - you know you want to.

If it's TRUTH you want then BUY THIS BOOK!!!, 19 Jun 2007
This review is from: Clash City Showdown (Paperback)
This is a tremendous piece of writing by someone who is passionate and really CARES about rock music. This is a TOTALLY INSIGHTFUL and intelligent, interesting piece of work and delves in and gets just about as close to the bone as any book could regarding the REAL Clash who were REAL people, with REAL faults as well as their unpredictable astounding creativity. This book threatens to break the airbrushed image of a band which is lie and in which record companies, the media and even the fans themselves have all become co conspirators. Of course the bare facts of this book won't be to everyone's taste but there are many, many books out there on the Clash to comfort the mindless with exactly what they want to hear. To those I would say go look in the new age mysticism section under 'Church of Joe'. There are hundreds.
This is a brave book with some bloody good illustrations.

One fan's view of The Clash., 27 July 2005
This review is from: Clash City Showdown (Paperback)
Unfortunately its not a very insightful or entertaining view. Anyone wanting to know about this band would be much better off buying Marcus Gray's book.
