240 v impact wrench. 12 Feb 2011
New Clarke CEW1000 Electric Impact Wrench 240vThis wrench is,in my opinion, the dogs whatsits. It does the job superbly well. The wrench looks and feels expensively made but heavy. Its supplied in a good case with 4 impact sockets and even spare motor brushes. The unit performs as well as an air operated version, removing wheel nuts just as fast.Using the unit is a bit heavy but the trigger is well positioned and easy to use.The only disadvantage is no speed adjustment. This is useful when tightning wheelnuts initially before the wheels are on the ground.I used a 12v type that connects to your car battery before I bought the Clarke, but the operation was horrible and although it did the job it was slow and scary, try one and you`ll see what I mean.I already own a air operated wrench but its too much trouble to set up the compressor just to undo w/nuts.I also own a 19v Taskmaster wrench but its just not powerful enough to undo fully tightened wheel nuts,so the Clarke unit is an ideal compromise between the battery and air operated versions. If you are a motor mechanic and work on cars at home or a car enthusiast, then the clarke is exceptional value for money. The wrench is not much more than the 12v car battery type but less than half the price of the others available. If you need a reasonably priced electric wrench then buy this one.

Good for the price 27 May 2011
Bought primarily to undo a very stubborn crank pulley bolt. Had it off in seconds. Not sure I'd want to use it with wheel nuts as it's rather viscious, but would be ideal for driveshaft nuts etc. Works very well for the price, and even comes with spare brushes (wonder how long they last then?!).

I purchased this impact wrench with the idea of saving my arthritic fingers form too much strain.
The wrench is well made but a bit heavy. It is ideal for wheel nuts but I would not recommend it for general use with smaller nuts and bolts. It will certainly undo the odd stubborn bolt, but I would not do it up again with this tool.
The wrench does come with a good strong case and there is a fair assortment of good impact sockets as well.
I am keeping this tool but intend to buy a less powerful model for general car maintainance.

Worked perfectly for a stubborn crankshaft nut
This impact wrench made short work of several exhaust bolts, engine mounting bolts, and the hardest of all the large crankshaft nut. An essential tool for replacing timing belts. Read more

Impact Wrench - Good Buy
The product appears to be well built but supplying spare carbon brushes makes me a bit dubious. It has worked well for the jobs that I have used it for upto now. Read more

Not the best...
I bought this mainly for stripping my engine quickly - which it did fine right up until the crank pulley bolt. Where it also failed was, surprisingly, wheel nuts. Read more
