4.0 out of 5 stars Still the man to beat! 20 Nov 2010
If you are already familiar with this format then you will not be disappointed. Oz has once again subjected his liver to a damn good thrashing in order to bring us his favourite wines of the year. His tasting notes are, as ever, poetic, bemusing, laugh out load funny and thought provoking and I have not found a more useful or trustworthy reviewer. One small caveat would be that, it seeems to me, that Oz relies more and more each year on outlets requiring you to buy a case which may not bother you but if you are not interested in Oz's tasting notes and are looking for a guide that will help you buy a single good bottle at your local supermarket then you may preferThe Best Wines in the Supermarkets 2011: My Top Wines Selected for Character and Style.

5.0 out of 5 stars well worth the money 3 Dec 2010

This is the second year I have bought this book and have spent the last few weeks buying wines out of the book to try and the one thing we have found is that you never get a bad bottle, you may not get the best ever wine every time, but each bottle no matter how cheap is always very good value. For the cost of the book, you have the knowledge in knowing the wine you are buying is good. What we have found is he seems to pick wines that I would never buy, either becuase of a horrible label or down to cost. If you are like me, I used to walk around the supermakets picking the half price wine, thinking I was getting a good deal, say a 12 pound bottle for 6 pound, then again and again to find it was only fairly average, most of the wines he recomends are rarely reduced but they are worth it, also the book makes the most perfect gift if like me you have many friends who enjoy wines, I have given two away already this year with another one planned for christmas given with a wine from the book! Perfect easy gift!

Worth a try buying but might just as well experiment yourself based entirely on your own ideas of what you would like.

A good purchse. Takes some of the risk out of choosing wine. A good variety of supermarkets in here too.

If you fancy trying a new wine without taking the risk that it'll be awful. Then this is a few pounds well spent.
