Book Description

24 April 2012 Official Souvenir Guide
Clarence House is famous as being the London home of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother for fifty years, from 1953 to 2002. Built by John Nash, it has been a royal residence for over 170 years. This stunning book tells the story of the house and its former occupants - from the Duke of Clarence, for whom it was built and who resided here as William IV from 1830 to 1837, to the present occupiers The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry. It showcases the many treasures within including works of art by Monet, Piper, Sickert and Augustus John, and the Queen Mother's personal collection of porcelain and silver.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value interest 17 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a reasonably informative booklet about the Queen Mothers former London residence. It is interesting to a point but would have benefitted with more photographs of the rooms. There was a book published some years ago whilst the Queen Mother was still alive and living there which had an excellent editorial and some stunning photography of the room sets, one could almost have used it for reference as a decorating style book, sadly long out of print but I think a couple of photographs could be from that previous incarnation. For the money it's an OK buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Guidebook 12 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It is a guidebook, so don't expect to learn everything you want to know about Clarence House. But it gives a good synopsis of it's history with beautiful photos. As there is very little in print, that I am aware of, on Clarence House it is an important publication. There is the 1949 book by Christopher Hussey, published by Country Life, and certainly this little guide is a great improvement, as one would expect, on the illustrations.
For the price great buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Guide 10 Oct 2013
By MKRC
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This Guide and is very adequate as a souvenir as well as sensible prepatory reading prior to visiting Clarence House (only open in August, I think). The information in the book was nicely supplemented by the guide who conducted our tour of Clarence House a couple of months ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tour of Clarence House 9 Feb 2014
By L. M. Keefer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This Clarence House official tour guide is organized into three sections: architectural history, occupants of Clarence House and Tour of Clarence House.

It describes the house's origins and construction in the early 1820's. It has had seven primary occupants with the first being William, the Duke of Clarence who later became king down to Prince Charles and Camilla and Prince Harry who today live at Clarence House when they are in London.

Rooms featured in the book include the Entrance Hall, Lancaster Room, Morning Room, Library, Dining Roo, Hall, Horse Corridor and Garden Room. There are images of the rooms throughout the years and fascinating historical facts. If you are interested in the homes of British Royalty, and their history, this is a wonderful and satisfying introduction to Clarence House.
