Synopsis

Ronnie Barker created the series Clarence under the pseudonym Bob Ferris. He stars as Clarence Sale, a bumbling, short-sighted Cockney removals man, who sees the world as an opaque blur and spends more of his time bumbing into things than packing them. Then he bumps into housemaid Jane Travers - who changes his life in dramatic ways.

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2.4 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), English ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: This comedy series, written by Ronnie Barker and set in 1937, is something of a lost classic. Barker plays Clarence Sale, short-sighted removals man and suitor of Jane, a ladies' maid. Ostensibly a comedy of manners with moments of slapstick mayhem (he's as blind as a bat!), Clarence resurrects the title character from an episode of the 1971 ITV series, Six Date With Barker, and was Barker's final TV project before retiring. Featuring all 6 episodes. ...Clarence - Series 1 ( Clarence - Series One )

Great show 10 Oct 2005
Format:DVD
With all the problems in the World, I really can't imagine why people get so upset at such stupid things. This is really a delight to watch, in the same vein as Last Of The Summer Wine, just a very mellow sweet show. Can you imagine criticising Dad's Army for it's portrayel of the elderly or Open All Hours for the speech impaired? Good grief!

Absolutely hysterical 25 Aug 2006
Format:DVD
An oft-forgotten gem of Ronnie Barker's. Several times I had to stop the playback until I stopped laughing so much! My own eyesight is still fortunately good, but I shall not mind making reference to bits from Clarence when it gets defective. (I am disabled - one leg - and know many others who are in various ways, and we don't have a problem with our sense of humour).

I think the best bits are when he sits on his old WW1 helmet spike and thinks it was a bee, and when he boils the china dummy egg.

A Real Gem 22 Mar 2007
Format:DVD
Ronnie Barker has the ability to see humour and fun in almost any situation, and this comes across in droves in Clarence. He will be sorely missed by those that can accept their own failings and still laugh at ourselves, even if in doing so, we are being politically incorrect!

To the reviewer who thinks it is a case of making fun at someone elses misfortune - you missed the point entirely, go get your head out of your backside and get a life!

We Miss You Ronnie!
We really enjoyed Ronnie Barker in "Clarence". The episodes had some real LOL moments. We like period setting pieces and there was lots of little
goodies in the programs. Read more

Children laughed out loud.
I originally bought this DVD for me. I remember watching it on TV when I was a young girl. But my children, aged 8 and 11, have claimed it for themselves. Read more

This is basically the story of a 'blind as a bat' furniture removal man - in search of a woman.
I remembered this show from way back as quite funny. Read more

not perhaps ronnie at his sharpest wit, as in Open All Hours, but still very enjoyable and well partnered by Josephine Tewson. Read more
