5.0 out of 5 stars Dispell the stereotypes, 9 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Clanbook Assamite (Vampire: The Masquerade Clanbooks) (Paperback)
This book succeeds where many other Clan/tribe/tradition books have failed. Where many of the others only provide a barebones ddescription of a clans structure with a few new powers and tools (weapons, magical items etc), this book conveys who and what the Assamites are. Of all the clans, the Assamites have probably been the most stereotyped, though this is partially intentional on their behalf. This book describes some of the details of the Clans society that are only now being shown to the Camarilla. The Assamites are clearly a much more complicated, and interesting, Clan than anyone previously thought. Made me want to play one - and I'm a storyteller.

3.0 out of 5 stars A big improvement over the previous clanbook, 21 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Clanbook Assamite (Vampire: The Masquerade Clanbooks) (Paperback)
The new Assamite clanbook is essential for Storytellers and Assamite players alike, who are wanting to use this most bloody-handed of the independent Kindred sects in their campaigns. The book provides an absolute wealth of information on the clan, it's tortured past, and it's newfound lust for the vicious and ceaseless diablerie of it's fellow Kindred. Any ST running a chronicle in an up-to-date Vampire campaign needs this book to run the clan correctly, and any long-term groups will appreciate the newfound directions which this book takes the clan in, as well as providing a far greater depth of purpose than the old 'We can't drink their blood' scenario which the Assamites used to have to suffer under. Also, the artwork is great, and the writing fluid and enjoyable. The only real downside is that, as with all clanbooks, this material should have been available to a greater extent in the campaign rulebook. Still, there's only so many pages available, and as a seperate supplement, Clanbook:Assamite delivers in bringing an obscure, stereotyped clan into prominence. Good work, White Wolf, may it continue with the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mature, highly thoughtful piece of work, 28 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Clanbook Assamite (Vampire: The Masquerade Clanbooks) (Paperback)
An impressively written book, juggling historical backgrounds, differing intellectual and philosophical perspectives and multiculturalist views without even a moment's recourse to stereotype. The assassins' clan has been given infinitely greater creative depth by Mr Oliver; the author has once again proven that it's not impossible to write even a role-playing game book about vampires with a well thought-out, mature artistic approach. Stop reading this review and go buy the book already.
