Product Description

'CLAN' is a supernatural thriller drawing on the turbulent history of the Border Region of Scotland with both modern and historical themes.

The story is told through David Elliot who is 57, frustrated, out of work and has three failed marriages behind him. When he finds himself out of work in 2007 he goes to the borders of Scotland hoping that his ancestry will help him find some validation of his life.

Accompanied by his daughter, son-in-law and his beloved grandson Thomas, he finds that his bloodline leads his family into terrifying danger.

700 years of history threaten those he holds dearest as myth and reality of "The Bloodiest Valley in Britain" combine.

The corruption of the rich and powerful meets legend as Good and Evil clash over the lust for the ancient Throne of Scotland and power in the modern world.

William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Border Reivers, creatures of supernatural horror and past heroes of the Elliot `Clan' are all involved as the evil Lord William de Soulis actions his plan to assume power over an unsuspecting world.

All that stands against him is a family fighting desperately to protect a child.

Their only weapon is their love of family.... The power of their `Clan'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating!, 13 Dec 2008

This is a fascinating story bringing myth, legend, supernatural, historical and corporate politics together in a compelling and thrilling drama. The graphical way in which the characters, both historical and fictitious, are brought to life, makes you feel you are in amongst the action. This book combines reality and fiction in such a way you find yourself questioning where the borders really lie. I look forward to Mr Elliot's next thrilling read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice cover but I expected much more, 6 Jun 2010

This review is from: Clan (Paperback)
A bit off-piste for me in terms of genre, but with 14 five star reviews out of 14 reviews I really expected more. The plot is not original, it is very linear and a bit too simplistic, with the main character being drawn to his ancestoral homeland by an evil undead spirit bent on world domination.

The writing style is functional and adds little colour or substance to the characters. Also at points, particularly the finale, I struggled to visualise what the author was trying to put across.

Throughout reading this book I couldn't help feeling that this would be a good plot for a Hammer style horror film, or even a Doctor Who episode - in fact, it you looked hard enough you would probably find similar Hammer films and Dr Who episodes.

Overall, this book was a bit flat and one tracked. Of the 14 previous reviews, it was the only review for 10 of the reviewers. 2 of the others reviewers have only submitted 2 reviews and one reviewer had 3 reviews - make of that what you will.

If you want good, contemporary horror, my recommendation would be Mike Carey's Felix Castor series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clan, 10 April 2009

This is a brilliant read from the clever prologue, which sets the pace through to the last page; this was refreshingly a book that you could not second-guess with so many twists and turns.

The author intelligently and subtly blended past and present, the supernatural with corporate skulduggery that was not only believable but made you feel at times that this could be really happening.

My only disappointment at the end of the book was that it ended! I hope Mr Elliot already has pen to paper as I think a very talented author has a lot more to offer
