5.0 out of 5 stars Kinley McGregor rocks! 11 Feb 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I don't normally buy romance books, but after a late night watching Highlander on tv, I thought I would give this one a go.... and I was really impressed. I have now read this book about five or six times, and I still enjoy it just as much. If you like an unchallenging romance with action, lots of humour and a bit of intrigue, then this is definitely for you. The heroine is feisty but not two-dimensional, and the supporting characters reappear in later books in the series (the MacAllister Brothers), if you hate leaving a good story behind. And if you have some spare time on the web, check out her website (just dot-com her name) and visit her castle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely in a minority... 28 Nov 2011
By Lewish
Format:Mass Market Paperback I found this book a little simplistic. Both Maggie and Braden are likeable characters and their blossoming romance rang true. However, take away all the 'saucy' elements and it would have been a great read for a teenage girl.

I thorougly enjoyed the interaction between the two main characters, the dialogue flowed and Maggies love and yearning for Braden all of her life was both touching and believeable. For me there was an edge missing. Just before this book I read Brenda Joyce's 'The Conqueror' and perhaps that is what made me feel like there was something lacking in Claiming the Highlander.

Nonetheless, this book is definitely enjoyable - but perhaps more as light holiday reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful romance 22 Jun 2002
By Carla - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I bought this book after I found out Kinley MacGregor is also Sherrilyn Kenyon. Just like with her paranormals, she brings something fresh to a staid, boring formula. I love the way this author's mind works. They way she brings the past to life and can blend it with humor and real emotions.
Braden is a welcomed relief from the alpha jerk hero who has to prove himself. He is a man in tune with his strengths and his weaknesses and I love the way he was able to allow the heroine to grow and discover herself. He was a real hero.
Maggie really touched me. At times I saw myself in her and I could relate to her wanting to save her family. She was a great heroine for Braden without being bitchy or whiney.
The secondary characters are some of the best I've seen. I like the way they weren't background to the story, but were real people who helped bring everything together.
Now I'm off to track down more of Macgregor/Kenyon's books. I can't wait to read them.

5.0 out of 5 stars this book, then hop a flight to Scotland!!! 9 Mar 2002
By Glassary - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have to run out and get my ticket to Scotland right now.
Need to claim me a highlander!!
Kinley MacGregor has written a wonderful tale.
Full of humor and poignant romance.
Claiming the Highlander tells the story Maggie, who decides that enough is enough. The feud with a neighboring clan has to So she enlists the women in her battle against the highland warriors. But what weapon do mere women yield...why the mightiest one of all....simply saying "NO"
NO cooking, NO cleaning....and NO SEX till the feuding stops.
Well the highlanders are outraged, who do these women think they are!!! But the women stand the men resort to their best hope to sway the women back home.
They send in Braden McAllister, the one man who has never heard "No" from a women.
Sparks fly when Braden and Maggie meet, and it's electric.
The are both so endearing that you cheer on each in their quest to be the victor.
In addition to Maggie and Braden, Claiming the Highlander contains wonderful secondary characters...namely Bradens brothers Ewan, Lochlan and Sin (ooo baby!).

I highly recommend this book, it will make you laugh out loud and wish for your own highland warrior.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun, sweet, funny read. 5 Aug 2002
By A Customer - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I'd really give this 4 1/2 stars. Kinley McGregor's books are always fast-paced, funny, and enjoyable to read. No exception here. With a similar (but better developed) story to Quinn's "Romancing Mr Bridgerton", it's the story of the plain jane (Maggie) who has loved the handsome charmer (Braden) all her life but has never been noticed by him. Until now. Events throw these two together and both are forced to see the other in a new light - with the help of the darkly charming and sarcastic Sin. I'm sure he will be the subject of the next book and I look forward to it - he's yummy! And I hope that by the time Lochlan gets his story he will be a stronger laird! How could he lose control of his clan so easily? But I digress.
Braden and Maggie are fun and likable. He happily flirts with and charms every woman he meets never interested in anything long term. He has seen that love can hurt and destroy as evidenced by two of his brothers fighting over a woman with tragic consequences. He also vows never to take a wife after seeing his mother's rejection of his half brother Sin as a child.
Maggie has worshipped Braden since she was a child. He seemed to always come to her rescue and has always been kind to her but never saw her as anything more than his best friend's kid sister. But now she is a woman and has taken action that causes Braden to see her as such. She is no longer the gangly young girl - she has developed a uniquely earthy beauty that Braden notices for the first time. He is attracted to her, but this is Maggie - a woman he likes and respects - surely had cannot desire her too! It unnerves him for he can't fall in love - and certainly not with someone he cares about - can he? And Sin challenges Maggie to see past Braden's looks and reputation. Does she truly love the man underneath or does she simply want his attentions just as all the other women do?
Two sweet people who belong together. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kinley MacGregor does it again! 25 Mar 2002

Format:Mass Market Paperback
After reading Master of Desire and Master of Seduction i couldn't wait to see what she would come up with next, and i was not disapointed. As soon as i saw the book on the shelf i didn't even have to see the back i bought it. This book was wonderful, the characters are very real and well written. I loved the chemistry between Braden and Maggie. I have read alot, and i mean a lot of books and mostly i can always tell who is the bad guy and how it will end. This one i couldn't. I read this book in one sitting and wished i had another. Kinley MacGregor, i can't wait for the next one. I have my heart set on Sin :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Some things never change... men have 2 things on their mind. 30 Sep 2002
By Tanya L. Schaub - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is a fun story that shows KM's humor at it's best. Maggie (the herorine) has banded together the women of her and a waring clan to put a stop to the needless violence of the clan fueding. She has lost one to many brothers and family members to the fued as have many of the others in the clan. Well she gets all the women together and they decide to withhold both their cooking skills as well as their other "favors". Maggie also gets the clan women from the other clan to do the same for the men in their clan. They had hoped that it would last only for a few days but the men are just as stubborn as they are and it is now weeks and tempers are flying....
In comes the hero - Branden who decided that his childhood friend Maggie can be won over by his good looks and charms as have all of the women with whom he has ever crossed paths with. But, when he goes inside he sees Maggie a bit different than in the past. Not only that but Maggie has loved him for years and is sure that she will crumble under his onslot...
Add in a few brewding brothers (Sin, Ewen, Lochland) and hang on for the ride. If you like highland stories this one is a must!
