Product Description

Product Description

With questions of procedure arising more frequently in the civil courts than points of substantive law, it is essential that junior practitioners have full working knowledge of the procedures employed through the course of a civil litigation claim. Civil Litigation has been designed to effectively prepare the reader for practice by offering an excellent overview of the key principles and procedures applicable to a civil case. All aspects of the civil litigation process are covered, from the use of pre-action protocols, commencing proceedings and choosing an appropriate track, right through to trial, costs, enforcement and appeals. Realistic forms and example documentation, such as witness statements and statements of case, are included throughout ensuring that the reader is fully prepared for the type of forms and documents which they will be required to prepare in practice. Fully referenced to Blackstone's Civil Practice, this manual has been fully revised to include recent case law and statutory developments in this dynamic area of the law. Civil Litigation is essential reading for all trainee barristers, and is also a useful source of reference for junior practitioners wishing to refresh their knowledge of the civil litigation process.

This manual needs to be fully overhauled.
It is updated and amended every year.
But that is the cause of the problem.
The updates and amendments appear to have been bolted on to the original text, apparently without any attention to overall intelligibility of the book.
Some of the sentences are incredibly convoluted and vague.
The content is also riddled with errors.
My college produced handouts of the corrected mistakes.
They also provided more digestible versions of some of the chapters.
I have seen litigation manuals produced by another BVC supplier and found them to be far more user-friendly.
Unfortunatley, they are only supplied to students of their particular course, and are not made available to purchase.
My apologies to the very knowledgeable barristers involved in the editing of the Civil and Criminal Litigation Manuals, but I was not alone on the BVC in finding them very difficult to use.
