If you want a definitive gangster film, this is it. Shot in the rambling favela's of Rio de Janeiro the film spans several decades following the lives, struggles and fortunes of lead character Rocket and those around him from his boyhood through to adulthood. Rocket aspires to be more than his peers who see gang life and culture as the only escape from the poverty of those in their neighbourhood and the deadly attentions of the police. The gang tensions builds through the film ultimately leading to a brutal and bloody war but this is also the chance for Rocket to prove his worth. Epic film in the genre and if you liked the Godfather and Goodfellas etc you'll love this.

Action, drama, adventure, love, a brilliant soundtrack and cinematography. It has a great story and some unbelievably convincing acting at times. My number 1 film.

the greatest film of all time ,brilliantly shot ,fantastic story ,action ,drama ,heart wrenching ,gut busting gangster flick set in the slums of rio ,the acting by the street kids was truly wonderful ,the fact that most of the actors really were street kids and residents of the favelas before being chosen for the film is incredible given how good the acting is ,cannot recommend it highly enough

Ouch
This is hard to watch for all the right reasons ...very well made, feels like a documentary at times. Worth seeing.
