We saw these in the Chronicle store in San Francisco and checked them over before we ordered them at home in the UK, so we knew what we were getting. On the ground in Paris this week, they made useful guides for our walks and took us to places we'd not tried before (such as the walk in the 14th arrondissement). The walks have a strong emphasis on shopping and eating, and as you might expect a number of places have changed substantially since these cards were published in 2004.

Get them (having the map extract to follow is a thing of genius) but don't expect everything to be exactly as documented.

Paris on a time limit 22 Oct 2007

I used this guide on a recent trip to France, when I had some hours to kill in Paris between flights. I found it great as a focus on where to go in a limited time; and the walks are handily located between Metro stations. The only slight thing is that sometimes the description will say, e.g., "go up this street", when in fact you should be going down. But having the map on the reverse side of the description usually sorts this kind of thing out. I had a thouroughly enjoyable afternoon in Paris on a fine autumn afternoon thanks to these cards - much better than hanging round the airport, or just wandering aimlessly around town.

Simple idea - set of 50 cards with map one side and details the other, each card about the size of a passport so easy to pocket. The walks are almost all 1 - 2 hours and 2 -3 km, so easy to 'promenade' through some less frequented parts of the 'true' Paris which won't be heaving with other tourists. I have already done one of these walks - the Voie Verte(details from a website) - and the card describes what we saw very accurately. In short, easy to read, easy to follow and easy to carry.
