The Good Versus Evil Combined Edition has both City of Heroes and City of Villains games, including the recent, massive expansion Issue 7: Destiny Manifest which introduced dynamic player-versus-player zones and one-of-a-kind villain Mayhem Missions. City of Heroes, allows players to create characters with completely original costumes and powers, then fight criminals and villains who are terrorising Paragon City. In City of Villains, players get to show off their bad side by creating villainous characters whose job it is to build a criminal empire and wreak havoc in the Rogue Isles.

In addition to being able to create almost limitless costume styles and hero and villain bases, the Good Versus Evil Combined Edition provides a wide array of special features, including special in-game prestige travel powers and new hero and villain costume pieces.

My son (then 12) bought this game with some pocket money in 2005. He drove me mad for six months, begging me to buy another copy so I could play with him. I've been addicted for 21 months now. We have four accounts in our house now. Each costs £8-9 a month. Best value ever! From buying various games regularly for PC, PS2, DS etc, the kids hardly ever ask for anything. Definitely cost effective! It is a great game. Yes, you can solo if you want but teaming is much more fun. They bring out updates regularly which keeps the game fresh. There are always new challenges. The "black market/auction house" system of buying and selling various enhancements is fantastic. I've never tried WoW and keep thinking about it but people who've played CoH/V and WoW almost always say that CoH/W wins every time. This is a steal at £12.50. I can almost guarantee it will be the best £12.50 you've spent in a long, long time. I've been playing games since the early 1980s and this is the best game I've ever played... by a long, long way.

I've had City of Heroes and City of Villains for a good few years now and after a short to play World of Warcraft, then Age of Conan (no more of that I'm afraid) I have returned to find I love the game just as much as before, if not better.
The wealth of options at character creation remains one of the finest I've seen (it makes the pitiful character creation of WoW seem woeful) and makes it hard to decide what sort of character you would to go.
Play wise the games are simplistic but fun; you're a hero/villain, fight crime/commit crimes... that's it. But that does not seem to matter as you'll be having so much fun. At first getting around is a bit of a slog but come level 14 and your avatar get's travel powers the game opens up (Flight and Super Jump are my favourites) in a way you won't believe possible.
I have found it easy to join groups in both games and by and large the gaming community is fun and easy going; you can solo it but the fun you get from working with a team is by far one of the best things about this game.
Recent updates such as a player crafting system, mission editor, Day Jobs (which add bonuses/buffs depending upon where a character logs out) and power customization (allowing a player to alter the colour and effects of certain powers as well as the animation on others) allow the player a great amount of customisation and freedom.
The biggest problem is like all MMO's; end game content which truthfully, city of heroes caters for.

I'm just a casual player. I like to log on now and again, sometimes not for weeks, sometimes playing all day long. Something difficult to cope with the grinding/farming nature of most mmorpgs. Not here though, you just log in and kick right into action. Enhancements and inventions, while present, only boost your preformance slightly, it's all up to your personal skills and ingenuity.

The game has been around since 2004, but it still gets new content regularly enough. Just as I write this, Paragon City is being attacked by an alien armada.

It plays like an arcade game, with almost no restrictions. Ever logged in to WoW and wished the devs would just butt off and give you what you want? Well, they did here. Want to charge in invincible? Sure, just press a button and no one can harm you. How about sniping up someone while flying up invisible in the clouds? Ok, you got it! And it's done in a way that both PvE and PvP, soloing or grouping remains exciting and challenging.

Character customization is the best I've seen. You can be literally anything, from a burning winged angel in anime mecha armor to a bunny girl in tights.

There are 4 servers in Europe, 2 in english, 1 french and one german. I find most players to be mature and polite, a nice community overall.

The only drawback is the presence of a monthly fee. But if you're looking for a paid mmorpg, thumbs up to City of Heroes/Villains.
