BUDDHA'S HAND - Citrus Medica Digitata
or "fingered citron"
You are buying one Citrus Medica Digitata in a 20cm pot, 40 - 50cm high above the pot.
This unusual Citrus has fruit shaped like a hand and is believed to be the first citrus known in Europe. It is speculated that the Greeks and Romans brought them back from Asia.
The tree or bush has sharp thorns and produces white/purplish clusters of fragrant flowers . The fruit are "finger" like citrus and are seedless and juiceless. They are often used by Chinese & Japanese for fragrancing rooms/clothing etc.
The fruit is often used for it's zest and the pith is not bitter as with other citrus. Therefore the whole fruit can be sliced and used to dress salads or fish etc.
These trees are sensitive to frost and do not like draughts. They grow best in temperate conditions.
