Product Description

Product Description

Citizenship in Modern Britain is a readable text that examines citizenship from a social science perspective. The subject matter has been divided into three sections, corresponding to each of the AQA AS Level modules. The text also provides all the necessary academic material required for examinable citizenship courses, supported and developed by a series of research, practical and discursive activities. These activities have been designed not only extend to students’ knowledge of the subject, but also to encourage thought, debate and evaluation.

This book is essential for students taking AS level Citizenship. It also provides excellent support for students who are studying subjects that have close links to citizenship issues such as sociology, law, Government and politics and general studies.

Having read the updated version of Trevor Davis' book, i feel the text best deals with the citizenship AS course.Having looked at a number of similiar texts around, i feel that this is the most comprehensive, accessible and widely sourced book of its genre on the market. The book could be furthur improved by online linkage, yet the subject matter is so indepth that this probably isnt required.
Overall this book provides the essential structure for anyone wanting to achieve a high grade in AS citizenship. This should be the AQA standard text. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This book is excellent if you are studying AQA Citizenship at Alevel. I found this book particularly helpful for unit 3 Power & Justice module. The book is easy to use and is a good straight forward read. However, some details on voting systems are absent from the book and the book refers the reader to political studies books.

Apart from this the book includes most of the infromation students need to study Alevel Citizenship with AQA and the book also gives valuable case studies to include in the exam which I found very useful. This may also help students get higher marks in the exam and it also helps back up points you are making in the exam.

For the small areas the book does not include you can use the internet, but overall this book is definately worth buying for Citizenship Studies.

The problem with this type of text is that the subject is ongoing and it is very difficult to keep up to-date. Despite such, this text can be useful to students who are undertaking an AS in Citizenship.

Indeed, as someone who teaches this subject, I can advise that there is no alternative text with those planning an alternative seemingly delayed before production. For this reason alone this text is worth purchasing.

For my part, I think it lacks graphics and can be dull. More relationship to the internet could also be of value. However, this book does make you think about the issues. For this reason alone the author should be congratulated.
