I notice that it is mainly women who have left reviews and that the only (so far) UK review is by a woman. As a bloke, I can see that a reader could want to give the heroine a good shake and consider the plot implausible, however, the plot hangs together nicely and I'm sure many women will have sympathy for Barbara Marr. I didn't think it was quite as good as "Take the Monkeys and Run", but then it had a lot to live up to. I think there probably has to be an element of implausiblity for something to be funny, (e.g. "Only Fools & Horses" scripts) and this is. What I can say is that i thoroughly enjoyed it, had a good chuckle here and there, thought it well-written and felt well satisfied afterwards.

I think it might help readers to read Take The Monkeys first as there are plenty of allusions to it in Citizen Insane but it's not necessary as it stands mostly on it's own. Barb is still separated from Howard, her George Clooney lookalike husband, and still managing to get into bother, this time over the strange antics of Bunny Bergen, a local "mom" and the great yearbook scandal. The plot is extremely silly, in fact make that ludicrous, but compulsive, well crafted and funny. Barb is a great character - she is a bit like all of us, uncertain of her skills and worth in some respects but surrounded by loving friends and family and I just love her relationship with her mum.
I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good, lighthearted read.

Another humourus crime novel following the unlucky Barbara Marr from Karen Cantwell. Whilst Barb gets herself in the most unlikely of situtions, I love reading about them in Karen's witty style. Definately one of my favourite authors.
