Phil Nutman's collection is bound together through his style and ability to tell a well-written story. There's enough variety to add a dimension of excitement for each tale and Nutman's selection makes this a must-have for fans of his work and well-worthwhile for those who are unfamiliar with him. Those interested in writing will also appreciate the interview and afterward as Nutman manages to discuss the ideas in the stories as well as the process of putting each on the page. Both "Full Throttle" & the exquisitely titled "Memories of Lydia, Leaving" should be considered among the best work Nutman has ever done. Both make an impact. Each story has an energy which gives the reader the desire to revisit each.. As a collection, CITIES OF NIGHT acts as a psychological road map of where Nutman has been and what he felt in those dark places. Chi Zine Publications should be commended for publishing CITIES OF NIGHT and Philip Nutman ought to be commended with high praise for putting his words on the page and creating a set of stories which can be enjoyed and appreciated for years to come.
