5.0 out of 5 stars Choose-your-own-adventure Genius 15 Jan 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Thie series is exceptional. If you ever played fighting fantasy books, you should get these without delay. They are what you wanted but never quite got!
As described, these are the only gamebooks where you can retrace your steps, buy a house to keep your treasures in, rub shoulders with kings or beggars, change career to become I sea captain, a warrior, a magician... the options are endless. Each book covers a new region. So once you've become famous (or infamous!) in one land, you can pack up and explore a whole new country. Each area is full of Morris's whimsical, inventive scenes and characters (as anyone who loves the classic role-playing game Dragon Warriors will vouch for!). You will gain enemies and friends who will crop up from one book to the next. And as you play, you learn a little about yourself, too, because your breadth of choices is so rich you soon find yourself setting your own goals in the world. If that isn't enough, each is brimming with multiple threads of adventure, different paths which take you from comedy encounters to truly chilling trials.
This series re-invents gamebooks and shows the rest up as childsplay. I've found the only game-book series I'll ever need!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!! 14 Oct 2003
Format:Paperback
These books are the best!
I just wish they could have completed the series.
Apparently they charged too little for each book (back when I bought them, I think they were just £5 or £6 !!) so they couldn't finish the series for financial reasons.
I'd do anything for the last few unpublished books!
If you don't have this, just get it, then get all the others that are out. Lock yourself in your room for a year, then come out and complain about not being able to get everywhere in the fabled lands world, like I just have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tricky, but so much fun 6 Oct 2003
Format:Paperback
The second book of the series and currently the only one I have been able to get my hands on. There are six characters to choose from, each with their own particular strengths and weaknesses; from there on what happens is up to you. There is no single all important goal to achieve as with most game books, you can go where you like and do want you want; become a merchant, warrior, brigand - the choice is up to you. This book can be played on it's own and give hours of enjoyment, but to get the most out of it you need to combine it with the rest of the series.
