Product Description

Product Description

An explanation of IP addressing and Cisco routers. It discusses the nuances involved in IP addressing and takes the reader step-by-step through configuration of a Cisco router. It addresses: subnetting and IP addressing; NAT (network address translation) and the HSRP (hot standby router protocol); how to use Cisco supported router commands like CIDR Blocks (class Internet domain routing) and VLSM (variable length subnet masking); all of the common IP addressing protocols; and 15 detailed router configurations. There are Cisco-oriented questions at the end of every chapter.

From the Back Cover

IP Addressing Clearly Explained! Written by the professionals at CCprep.com and backed by the CCprep.com website, Cisco & IP Addressing is the first book to clearly and completely explain IP addressing, subnet masking, IP Routing Protocols, and ways to configure each on Cisco's Internetworking Operating System. This reference gives you just what Cisco documentation doesn't: crystal-clear, step-by-step instructions for every aspect of configuring IP on Cisco routers. Defines and describes the different classes of IP addresses; Demystifies subnetting; Covers all the common IP Routing Protocols, including RIP, IGRP, OSPF, and EIGRP; Features numerous examples of IP addressing with Varable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM) and Classless Interdomain Routing (CIDR). The book also reveals how to configure both IP Standard and ExtENDed Access lists as well as Cisco's implementation of Network Address Translation (NT) and Cisco's Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP). Includes more than 100 practice questions with answers, helping users prepare for the CCNA, CCNP, and CCIE written exams. The many different scenario-based examples also serve as excellent preparation for the CCIE Pratical Exam. Cisco & IP Addressing is an essential resource for every network administrator and network engineer.

Whilst being fortunate enough to work in the industry, this book really helps, especially if you don't get the chance to attend Cisco based courses, with overviews of the subject, readable format with great example configuration guides, I highly recommend this book on content, its even better then an instructor led intro to IP and subnetting.

the typoes make you think 25 May 2000
By joey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The authors explain the concepts well. However, there are numerous typoes. Which can lead to confusion, or it can make you think it through.

After reading other titles along with this one, you can spot mistakes and work them out. It's kind of like an exercise with the bonus of a good explanation to go with it.
