The Miniamo set of four bowls are great for serving food to children. The bowls are made from melamine which is durable, easy to maintain and virtually unbreakable making it safe for children to use. Suitable for frequent use but also ideal for picnics and children's parties. The bowls come in four exciting, bold colours, choose from a orange, green, yellow or blue.
The bowls are from the 'Miniamo' range, Miniamo means 'to love your little ones' and caters for boys and girls, aged 2 to 9. The Miniamo coordinated range of kitchenware provides a wonderful environment for children to 'nest', enhancing their comfort, individuality and encourages imagination and fun.
Miniamo is part of the Ciroa brand which offers contemporary tableware, servingware, glassware and kitchen accessories.

Well after reading that last review I checked out the claims.
1) Melamine should never be used in the microwave.
Partly because it is not heat-proof enough (I have put melamine in the microwave for short times before!) - but mainly because it can cause the chemicals to leach out into the food - ie the melamine formaldehyde, pesticide chemicals and cyanide.
2) Acidic foods can also cause the chemicals to leach.
So some precautions need to be taken if using melamine bowls and plates etc.
However, it appears the main issue is that some manufacturers, particularly China apparently, are using urea formaldehyde instead of melamine formaldehyde, to make the utensils - which is not allowed. Which (apparently) has caused some health problems.
So perhaps check where they are made?
Shame - I always loved melamine bowls - I will probably get some for picnic use anyway and check where they are made.
Of course melamine was invented before microwaves are - and it is easy to think something 'plastic' is Ok for a quick microwave - but seems it is a no no.

I can't believe I have gone this long without these! With two small children I am forever searching for dishes for cereal, yogurt, icecream, fruit etc. These are a perfect size, can easily go in the dishwasher, and they are very pleasing to the eye. I would definitely recommend!
I bought these bowls and matching plates (in these colours as well as the pastel set) and I absolutely love them. I've had various "character" plates and bowls for the kids, and not only do the designs wear off, but they simply outgrow them after a short period of time. These are perfect because they are neutral but cute and colourful. My daughter and son love choosing their plate colour, so obviously they don't miss the Fifi/Lightning McQueen/etc plates that have gone in the bin! These bowls and plates are very durable as well. A fantastic buy.

Melamine is a mixture of nitrogen, CYANIDE, & FORMALDEHYDE. I highly recomend that everyone boycott all melamine products & lobby to get them banned immediately. Read more
