Product Description

From the Author

Why I wrote this book.
Gower is a peninsular in south Wales that offers some of the best coastal walking Wales and possibly even the UK has to offer. The coastal scenery is both superb and varied and the book aims to cover most of it in easy to walk stretches. I have also attempted not to neglect the areas away from the coast; rural, peaceful and with a charm all of its own. Here are walks for all capabilities, all seasons and there are some cracking pubs en route too. This is my first walking book (I have also written "Circular Walks in the Black Mountains" and thoroughly enjoyed every step of the research! I have also authored Beacons of Light, a colour photo study of the Brecon Beacons National Park, out Nov 1999. I warmly welcome any feedback from readers. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

I bought this to try and get some ideas for a few days of walking with some friends, but after spending about an hour with the book when it first arrived I've not given it a second look. The walks are very short, the longest being about 7 miles, and most being much shorter. If you're looking for some ideas for short walks with the family then I'm sure this book will serve you well, but it's certainly not going to provide walks to keep most people busy for more than a couple of hours at a time.

Gower needs little recommendation to those who know it, but this selection of walks will broaden most people's horizons to appreciate the amazing variety of landscape on offer in such a small area. The walks are short - from 3 to 7 miles - and in the nature of the landscape, none is all that strenuous, though the cliff paths described can involve a lot of ascent and descent. The north coast of Gower is often neglected by visitors, and the walks here give a different perspective and a slightly wilder feel.
Descriptions are fairly brief, but easy to follow, and the geographical or historical details (points of interest after each walk) are pretty sketchy, but this is essentially a pocket book, and is easily light enough to carry with you. Recommended to take the Explorer OS map along too.
If you're looking for a walk including the fabulous Three Cliffs Bay, or a detailed description of the stunning Worms Head, they are not in this book.

The walks were easy to follow, and covered all of the Gower peninsula, from coast to moorland, forestry and woodland, ranging from 3-7miles in legnth
