View from an ex professional piper,
By A Customer
This review is from: Circular Breath (Audio CD)
Perhaps Martyn Bennets greatest rival. I'm hard pushed to discern the difference in piping skill though personally I prefer Martyn's musicality. Gordon though once again shows the world the true heart of Scottish Traditional music,-earthy, primeval and stirring. There are contrasts on this album between radical kitchen piping and competition style sets. This pipers favourite is track 7 The Circular Breath, utilising the feadan or practise chanter, low whistle and appropriate percussion. However all tracks are strong featuring many little touches which offer inspiration. Listen for bendy notes where unexpected, the sound of a valve closing and the ''secret'' after the Piobaireachd. Gerry O'Connor's contribution on banjo adds to the flavour. Highly reccomended as a piece of genuine Scottish Piping for any collection.

This is an amazing album showing of Gordon's great playing! Would recommend it to anyone! This is one of the starting points of the 'new age' piping and folk music.

Highland piping at its best,
By Nathan Wahlgren - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Circular Breath (Audio CD)
Gordon Duncan is arguably the best piper in the world today, and certainly one of the most entertaining. He combines his fantastic abilities on the highland pipes, practice chanter, and tin whistle with an ensemble of percussion and stringed instruments. In this album not only does his playing ability shine through, but also his talent for composing and arranging music. It is ovbious that Gordon Duncan is a man who loves the pipes and takes his job as a professional piper seriously, though he has a good time with it. The booklet even has sheet music for a handful of the more exciting tunes, to allow the aspiring piper to wish he was as good as Gordon.

At first I wasn't sure what to make of it, but by the second listen I really dug this CD. Duncan's work will stand the test of time.
