In a trance,
This review is from: Circlesongs (Audio CD)
The old "Don't worry, be happy" first introduced Bobby McFerrin to a widespread audience. But since he's vocal style of music has been less chart freindly to say the least. He has an extroardinary talent to compose music entirely just through his vocal chords and Circlesongs is a fine example of it. I managed to catch Circlesong 6 on a Sky music station and immediately bought this album. It's highly relaxing and thought provoking but definately something that you need to hear an example of before buying it blind. If like me, you heard and enjoyed Circlesong 6 you probably will enjoy the whole album because much of it is the same.

A rich tapestry of sound,
By A Customer
This review is from: Circlesongs (Audio CD)
Circlesongs has now become my favourite album. It's tracks each evoke an entirely different set of emotions. Each seems to be spiced with the influence of a different culture with the end result being an album of music which goes beyond cultural differences.Although I personally believe that the album is 5 star and a must have, looking at the mixed reactions of the rest of my family I would say that it was an aquired taste. I would therefore reccommend listening to a few of the tracks before buying the CD.

Mesmerising,

This review is from: Circlesongs (Audio CD)
Drawing on the richness of different oral traditions and cultures, listeners need either a broad `musical' palate or an open mind for this to work. Each circle is a journey into the fabric of sound, they are not songs, more signposts of linguistic/artistic possibilities. Mesmerising in its simultaneous simplicity and complexity. Like seeing the pyramids of Giza for the first time.
