Product Description

Product Description

In our rushed, stressed society, it's sometimes difficult to spend meaningful time as a family. Now Starhawk, Diane Baker, and Anne Hill offer new ways to foster a sense of togetherness through celebrations that honor the sacredness of life and our Mother Earth.

Goddess tradition embraces the wheel of life, the never-ending cycle of birth, growth, love, fulfillment, and death. Each turn of the wheel is presented here, in eight holidays spanning the changing seasons, in rites of passage for life transitions, and in the elements of fire, air, water, earth, and spirit. Circle Round is rich with songs, rituals, craft and cooking projects, and read-aloud stories, as well as suggestions for how you can create your own unique family traditions. Here are just some of the ways to make each event in the cycle of life more special:

Mark Summer Solstice by making sweet-smelling herb pillows for good dreams
Send a teenager off to college with the Leaving Behind and Carrying With rituals
Comfort an injured child with the Tree of Life meditation
Commemorate a loved one by planting or donating a tree

As a one-of-a-kind resource for people of many faiths and beliefs, Circle Round will be a beloved companion in your home for years to come.

From the Author

Circle Round has something for everyone
My parents are Protestant, my in-laws are Episcopalian, my children have been raised Pagan, and my teenage niece and nephew, whom we are fostering, come from a Muslim household. Diane, Starhawk and I wrote Circle Round with this kind of family diversity in mind. We have explained all the basic tenets and holidays of Goddess tradition in language that is easily accessible for people of all faiths, as well as the children in our lives. The feedback I have gotten about the book from my own family members has been heartening, to say the least, and has opened the way for many fruitful conversations about our faith.

In writing the book, the three of us have also sought to emphasize the points of commonality among Goddess traditions, which span a wide range of traditional and eclectic spiritual paths. If you are searching for rituals, activities, stories and songs to form new traditions for your family, you will find abundant material here. If you already share seasonal celebrations with your children, you can pick and choose from among our many ideas one or two things that might enhance your observances.

In creating Circle Round, we amassed a very long recommended reading list for children and adults, which was in the end too long to be included in the book. To make sure that this information got out, we have created a website where all of our resources are listed by subject, and when possible linked to this website for convenient ordering. We also have included several "outtakes," articles that we love and want to share that didn't make the final cut. We hope you will make good use of these resources we have collected for you, and share the bounty of your search with your friends and family.

Best wishes for all your families from Starhawk, Diane Baker, and myself.

I have been looking for this book for years and I am grateful that Starhawk and her friends finally published it. I have been unable to locate any other source for child-friendly ideas to make pagan celebrations meaningful. This book focuses on foods, activities and stories to convey to children the wonder of natural cycles without preaching dogma, pagan or otherwise. I am not by nature effusive or sentimental, but I am writing this book six days after I received it, and I know I will be turning to it for inspiration when (and if) my seven-year-old daughter has children. For parents who follow a pagan path, but believe religion is a personal choice, this book is ideal. It provides countless ideas for sharing the joys of the seasons and their mythic significance without preaching. I cannot recommend this book too highly.

Excellent. 1 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
I have eight children & the five youngest are home-educated. Having been Pagan for the about six years I was looking for a book that would help me teach my children about my beliefs but in an enjoyable, understandable way.
This book has it all & more. It's beautifully written, interesting & has great activities for children & parents to get involved in.
Also songs & ideas for the Sabbats & handfasting etc.
You will not be disappointed if you buy Circle Round as it is worth every penny!
