Book Description

3 Oct 2011 1849389942 978-1849389945
A celebration of the last great era of the cinematic sex siren - a time when the cultural revolution resulted in unprecedented liberation in the treatment of nudity on screen. The Sixties and Seventies was an era when actresses were not ashamed to be associated with the tag of 'Sex Goddess' or 'Sex Siren' and were not embarrassed to exploit their beauty and bodily charms to enhance their career. Sex Sirens centres around a select number of actresses who capitalised on their natural beauty during this era. They range from cinematic legends to some whose names are barely known by the general public. Each chapter focuses on one actress with a biography, commentary and complete filmography. With an introduction by Roger Moore. Features full colour photos, rare international movie poster artwork and magazine covers. Actresses featured include Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor, Ursula Andress and Gina Lollobrigida.

4.0 out of 5 stars You will not be disappointed by this book! 6 May 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are even thinking about buying this book stop thinking now and just buy it! I bought it as a Christmas present for my dad and it went down well. Better than that, I also enjoyed it myself before wrapping it. They certainly don't make them like thet used to, with the possible exception of Scarlett Johansson!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heed The Call Of The Sirens... 2 April 2012
By 4-Legged Defender - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
A superlative sampling of the most sensual 60's and 70's sex kittens and irresistable carnivores available at the moment (anything comparable is out of print). Great size, text, photos and poster art. All the obvious sirens like Raquel Welch, Ann Margret, Carroll Baker, Angie Dickenson, Jane Fonda, Jill St. John, Sophia Loren, Janet Leigh, Sharon Tate, Ursula Andress, Brigitte Bardot, Claudia Cardinale, Anita Ekberg, Stella Stevens, Gina Lollobrigida, Elke Sommer, Mamie Van Doren, Senta Berger, etc. - all the puberty-inducing worldly women who made the decade enjoyable and unforgettable are showcased within. But wait, brethren, it gets better.

Unlike most similiar books, this one takes additional consideration of the Eurobabes typically forgotten and neglected - the Giallo girls, the Continentals, the Hammer Film babes, and then delves into the Drive-in dream queens and Blaxploitation babes. It's a treasure chest of treasured chests, if you know what I'm saying. Fan-friggin'-tastic on all counts.

Any admirer of the female form, important immoral and immortal cinema from these two glorious decades, gorgeous and glamorous gals the likes of which no longer exist are mandated by lascivious law to own this book. Gentlemen, start your engines...

5.0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Read About Some Beautiful Ladies 8 April 2012
By Gary P. Cohen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book is written by the co- publishers and editors of "Cinema Retro" magazine, one of my favorites, that is devoted to films of the '60s and '70s. The book concerns the beautiful women who graced the cinema during the '50s, '60s and '70s. It is similar to several books written by Tom Lisanti for the McFarland Publishing Co. Those books concentrated on the beautiful actresses the graced the various genres of movies of the period: the spy films, the drive-in movies, beach party films, etc. It is also similar to the excellent "Hammer Glamour," a book that concentrated on the beautiful females of the legendary horror film company, Hammer Pictures.
This book is divided into various sections: The Hollywood section gives us such gorgeous actresses as the gorgeous and talented Ann-Margret, Raquel Welch, the lovely Carroll Baker, the sexy and beautiful Jill St. John, Angie Dickinson, Stella Stevens, the late Natalie Wood, etc. "The Continentals" section gives us Brigitte Bardot, Ursula Andress, Claudia Cardinale, Senta Berger, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, the utterly perfect Elke Sommer, Barbara Steele, Luciana Paluzzi, etc. The "Made In England" section is very similar to "Hammer Glamour" in that it features, among others, Caroline Munro, Madeline Smith, Martine Beswicke and the stunning Ingrid Pitt (whose untimely passing has saddened many of us.) Also included in this section are Helen Mirren, Susan George, Suzy Kendall, etc. The book ends with nice reproductions of movie posters designed to emphasize the beauty of many of the actresses shown in this book.
The book features many beautiful color and b/w photos of the ladies involved. It is a quick read and very enjoyable.
I highly recommend it to those like myself who remember just about all of the stunning ladies featured in this book.
