I had this for Review via the `Amazon Vine' Programme, and so had no idea how much it cost until I just looked, and after having received and Reviewed the product. I have to say that I was amazed at the VERY reasonable price for the fabulous thought and work that has gone into making this delightful book! I have seen the prices of a few other books called `pop-up' with far less work having gone into them yet at far higher prices - and so this is a real bargain for less than a tenner!

The artwork here is simply gorgeous! Six scenes from the classic fairy-tale that come alive like the scenes on a real stage within a good quality made book! There's also the written story included on foldout flaps either side of either scene, and as everybody else has seemed to notice; there is LOTS to see in terms of great detail in the beautifully designed 3-D Sets!

Truly magical, wonderful and delightful - for young and old alike, and will make the perfect Christmas present for any young child!

Highly recommended!

This is an extremely beautiful novelty book, which is far more about the illustrations than the text. The book consists of six, double pages spreads, which have gorgeous cut out pictures on them, designed to look like a theatre stage. They are not exactly pop up pictures, more layers of paper, giving the pictures depth. Although my five year old daughter did enjoy the book, she found it quite difficult to read on her own - the text is hidden behind fold back curtain flaps. This means that the small child has to balance the book and fold back the pages to read the story, so you will need to read it to them really (my daughter much prefers to read to herself, unless it is bedtime, so she was a little frustrated by trying to hold the book open). Also, as with many of these gift/novelty books, the actual written text comes a poor second to the illustrations, so I was a little disappointed at the basic retelling of the story. My daughter also complained that the book ended with Cinderella trying on the slipper and there was no 'Happy Ever After' picture. However, these are minor complaints - this gift book is meant to be different from a storybook and the illustrations are certainly very magical indeed. I am sure any little girl, 3-7, would love to receive this as a gift.

Although this version of Cinderella does include the written story, hidden under fold-out panels at either side, it's a very abbreviated version with only the major events, the real detail of the story is in the 3-dimensional 'theatrical' scenes themselves. Each of the 6 tableaux is comprised of three cut-out layers, much like a theatrical stage set with a background, mid-ground and foreground. The whole thing does have a Christmas feel, even though this isn't a Pantomime version of the story.

The printing and construction quality is good but the book might not be the best choice for very young children - if they're hoping for some interactive element like a pop-up book they'll find the only option available here is tearing the pages, all the scenes are fixed with no interactive element except for the story side-panels. My only nitpick would be that the finish of the pages is too glossy and the reflections as they catch the light spoils the effect a bit. Other than that it's a charmingly old-fashioned way to enjoy the Cinderella story.

This is a gorgeous pop-up book telling the age-old and ever enchanting story of Cinderella. The magical story is told with six beautiful three-dimensional theatre scenes.

Each page is set like a theatre with a backdrop and then a series of cut-out paper layers to enhance the feeling of a stage. The story can be found on two fold-outs on either side of the scene. There are no surprises with the writing itself which is a pretty straight-forward retelling of the Cinderella story but I don't think a different telling of the story is what this book is about. This book is all about the design and that can't be faulted.

My five-year old niece and I have really enjoyed looking through this book as there is so much to see on each page, lovely costumes, the ballroom, a charming garden. This book is a delight all the way through although there was one criticism made by my niece `There's no wedding picture!' but this is the only criticism we had.

This is a darker, both visually and word wise telling of Cinderella which is a delight of 3-dimensional cardboard pictures and, I suspect, much closer to the original tale than more Disney-inspired modern versions.

There are 6 double paged spreads here and a fair bit of text on fold out flaps - each page looks like a theatre scene and the words are behind the curtains. As all the scenes have three layers to them, with a foreground and inner of cut-out cardboard, the book really is gorgeous to look at with lots of detail in a quite grown up but appealing graphical style. The tale is well told too, in simple prose with no dumbing down; it flows well and my six year old has enjoyed it being read to her. It's no spoiler to say that the story ends with Cinderella getting her prince - but no "happily ever after" here, that is left to the reader as the story ends with her agreeing to be married.

This is quite a thick and substantial book which is a little different from the norm and which would make for a good gift - I thought it was charming and my daughter liked it too. Recommended.
