My 8 year old had this as her library book from school and I sent her off to bed with a little bit of reading. Far from enchanting, the stepmother encourages the first of the ugly sisters to fit into the slipper by handing her a knife to cut her toe off. The second sister also squeezes her foot into the shoe until her heel bleeds.
This book is not in any way enchanting. The message it gives is that self-mutilation is needed to marry a prince. Shocking, vile and disgusting message, and this book should be taken off the shelves. My daughter says she cannot get the picture of a bloody shoe out of her head.
