Beryl Dean shouldn't be derided 30 Jun 2014
By Jane in Milwaukee - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I feel the other reviewer is completely unfair to Beryl Dean, the consummate author of church embroidery and one of the most expert British needlework authors of the 20th century. You can buy this book used for almost $50 or new for $140. There's a reason.

Beryl Dean is the expert's expert. She died at the age of 89 in 2001 after much research and publishing on church embroideries. She was awarded the M.B.E.--Member of the British Empire--partly because she designed and helped work up the Cope for the Bishop of London in celebration of Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The Cope displays 73 churches in London, with St. Paul's Cathedral front and center. As the Archbishop of Canterbury was also being enthroned that year, she also devised the Dean and Canon's Cope.

If you're interested in knowing the history of church vestments or want to make some, this is an excellent place to start.

Some very helpful information, but... 12 Jun 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Mercy, most of the designs inside this book are so 70's happy-clappy, hippie-dippy, you can hardly believe they're on vestments for serving the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

The gridded drawings for making vestment patterns are very helpful, as is all the information about using various fabrics and threads.
