CD Description
Boston's Passion Pit is the brainchild of Michael Angelakos; A songwriter’s songwriter drawing from a variety of influences, from the classic pop of Randy Newman to the synth work of Giorgio Moroder. The Chunk of Change EP was originally put together as a (belated) Valentine’s Day present to Angelakos’ girlfriend which then prompted him to give it out to friends and fellow students at Emerson College. Angelakos wrote and recorded the entire album by himself and it only hints at what is to come from this extremely talented perfectionist. The production of the recording -- brief, sporadic, and explosive -- worked towards the development of Angelakos’ signature euphoric and blissfully melancholic sound.

What a treat. The melodies are heartbreaking. Kick MGMT all over the shop IMHO. And you can hear they have 100 wonderful different directions to go in. I'm completely in love.

`Chucks of Change' is Passion Pit's debut EP and considering it was recorded at home on a laptop the sound and production is pretty impressive. Of course this is most well know for `Sleepyhead, which also features on the full album `Manners', but the whole EP has some great songs and from the opening track `I've Got Your Number' you know you are in for one positive and upbeat collection. It's pays to be aware that whilst the sound between `Chunks of Change' and `Manners' is similar, the latter album is more polished and slightly better in my opinion, so if you're unimpressed with this EP then it is still worth giving the album a listen. This is a fun, unique band and well worth giving a try and as you can pick this up reasonably cheap these days is worth considering.

I really liked this album, a friend recommended it to me and got me hooked with the song Live To Tell The Tale. A little short, but still pretty good regardless.
