Book Review: The Chronicles Of Time : Book 1
by J.C.Allen

Writing Style - 4.5/5.0 (Excellent)
I was impressed by the writing style in M.O.D., a previous offering by this author for an older audience; as such I was intrigued how he would manage with the transition into text for the younger audience, but I need not have worried. The structure and tone of the writing is superb for the target group, and I was equally impressed with the dialogue and accuracy of the writing to fit the characters being portrayed. A fine example.

Character Development - 4.5/5.0 (Excellent)
The characters in the tale are beautifully created. The lone father with a house-full of daughters (apart from the "lone" bit, I'm with you there), the interactions between him and their friends - whether you choose to think so or not - is also entirely realistic (though personally I don't go for the huggy-kissy approach). The potential step-mother figure is superb, though I must admit, annoyingly academic with seemingly few weaknesses.
I felt perhaps the character group was a little larger than necessary, but as it became clear that the story was to be split between multiple works, it also became apparent that perhaps the variety of skills and abilities needed to make things proceed, would not be something you would find in three or four people.

Descriptive - 4.0/5.0 (Very Good)
The descriptive throughout is very strong, from the characters and the people around them, to the places and events throughout the book. Everything was thought out and well-drawn, giving the reader a wonderful range of vivid experiences from the start, right through to the finish.
If I were to be picky, I felt that the atmosphere during "the trip" was a little lacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one seriously amazing invention... 23 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Chronicles of Time Book 1 is an exciting and heartwarming tale of a single father and his daughters who come across what is almost certainly the most valuable piece of technology ever invented...and I do mean EVER.

You're sure to fall in love with the young cast of characters as well as their videogame-developer father. When one of Rick's daughters finds an amazing device that allows him to view events from any point in history, he and his scientist friends are awestruck...but his daughters are the ones who push the envelope and explore the device's full potential. Imagine everyone's surprise when they discover it might be possible to actually travel to any time or place in the past!

Come see what happens when Rick and the girls do just that...but brace yourself because some people are willing to do just about anything to stop them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful fun! 2 May 2012

This is a strong story that portrays healthy, smart girls who stumble upon a time machine key. Together with their dad they must find the machine, figure out the riddle, and collect the pieces that are hidden in different eras of history in order to save the world. A wonderful adventure story, and the author does a great job creating fun and likable characters.

I must say that it's refreshing to find a YA book for girls that ISN'T overwhelmed by a sappy romantic subplot. These girls have goals and dreams, and they are willing to do the work it takes to reach them. They aren't eternally distracted by boys, makeup or clothes, which is nice, and judging from my own girl and her friends, more realistic.

This is a compelling read for girls of all ages, and I can't wait to read Part 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Tale! 22 May 2012

A group of youngsters make an astonishing discovery that sends them spinning back across time to solve an ancient mystery!

I liked the mystery elements which are intriguing and well crafted, as well as the family and teenage interactions which Mr Allen has down pat. The whole thing is an enjoyable romp which anyone can enjoy, but would particularly appeal to young adults.

I am looking forward to seeing where Mr Allen takes the story in Book Two!
