Book Description

This one-of-a-kind reference – now completely revised and updated – includes over 100 effective treatments, from antivirals to vitamins, as well as locations of specialists and clinics, Internet ordering information, and national, local, and international CFS/ME organizations. New and expanded sections include doctors' protocols and research on the causes and mechanisms of the illness, all written in concise, easy-to-understand language.

Every aspect of the illness is thoroughly examined, from diagnosis to an in-depth discussion of symptoms, from traditional to alternative therapies to essential coping strategies. The new edition contains chapters for those coping with multiple chemical sensitivities and dietary restrictions, as well an expanded section on children and adolescents with CFS/ME. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide, Second Edition, remains the most comprehensive reference guide on this disease.

Advance Praise for the Second Edition:

“Verrillo’s book is an encyclopedia of current information about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. She not only covers history and theoretical etiologies of CFS, but provides the very best source for current therapies, which is what people with CFS really want to know! This is a reference book that every patient should have. I encourage all my patients to use this as the “go-to-reference” about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.”
~Dr. Charles Lapp, M.D., Founder, Hunter-Hopkins Center, and medical advisor to the CFIDS Association of America and the National Fibromyalgia Association.

"This book is extremely comprehensive and very well referenced, not only with regard to the full range of treatments that have been helpful, both alternative and pharmaceutical, but also including detailed descriptions of the history of this disorder, its definitions, diagnosis, symptoms, prognosis, mechanisms, and other aspects. All of this is done in a very readable style. I highly recommend this book."
~Richard Van Konynenburg, Ph.D., Independent CFS/ME researcher

“Books such as this empower patients to take control of their own health education and management... I admire Ms. Verrillo's comprehensive and cross-disciplinary research and feel her new work will continue to provide important and useful information to everyone interested in the field."
~Lucinda Bateman MD, Director, Fatigue Consultation Clinic, and co-founder of OFFER (The Organization for Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Education and Research

This e-book is the best compilation I have ever seen of information about diagnosing and treating the serious, dreadfully-misunderstood physical illness ME, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome. Although there are a few omissions, and a few statements that may be incorrect, I have given it five stars for its clarity, completeness, searchability and overall correctness, which I can verify as a medical scientist suffering from this illness.

It is very well-referenced so that statements can be checked for credibility.

Although some aspects of the book are not relevant to the UK, such as sources and prices of supplements, the vast majority of the book is relevant to all those involved with this condition, anywhere in the world.

I therefore consider that copies should be distributed to every health professional who may be professionally involved with the illness, so that they stop giving the usual (incorrect) advice to ME patients, making their health worse, and instead start providing advice and help which may lead to an improvement in patients' health and fitness.

5.0 out of 5 stars M.E. 8 Jan. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The best book I have so far looked at for ME. It leaves me wondering why, when so much is known, are we left to try and find a cure ourselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic resource 1 Mar. 2013
By Janet S
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having been recently diagnosed with CFS and still developing new but previously not understandable symtoms this book is an absolute revelation to me. I have only read 33% of the book so far and have to read small sections at a time. Having had very little support, advice or information from the medical profession this resource explains the miriad of symptoms I have previously worried about. Understanding this wretched condition does not make you better but understanding what is happening and why reduces anxiety levels phenomenally. Suggestions of possible treatments and other resources available rather than an acceptance of the condition empowers. I wish this book had been recommended by my Consultant at diagnosis. I have read many other books about CFS but none of them go into sufficient detail of the physiologial impact of CFS on the entire body. Thank you so much for this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 16 Feb. 2013
By JenSt
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a fantastic book for anyone suffering from CFS/ME. I found it really useful that you can dip into sections of the book as and when you want as it's difficult to concentrate for any length of time due to 'brain fog'. The sections on treatments and pharmaceutical and prescription drugs are really informative and helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative 1 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a lot of repetition, but it warns you of that. It is very informative and brings together a lot of results from a lot of research on ME/CFS. It also talks of treatments that are being carried out in various parts of the world and says whether they are being successful. I think doctors here should take a look at it!
