Christy Moore has, for many years, been a household name in Ireland, singing distinctive trademark songs which are well represented on this album. His 'gravelly' lilting voice can take on the faster louder tunes like 'Lisdoonvarna'; in my opinion, however, he excels in the slower, softer tunes like 'Ride on' which he executes with a gentleness which belies his history in music and personally......'delerium tremens' is all but autobiographical. The downside to this album is that most of the songs are reproduced on later albums again and again.

Why not a 2 CD set, eh? 4 Nov. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This CD is more or less a "best of", though to fit that description, I think 3 or more discs would fit better. Cuts on this album come from 4 of Christy's wonderful mid-80's string: 1983's Time Has Come, Ride On ('84), Ordinary Man ('85), and Unfinished Revolution ('87), which are all out of press in the US, & rare in Ireland. If this CD perks your interest, grab the 1st three, plus his 1972 solo debut, Prosperous. Ride On was my first exposure to his music, and is still my fave. This little collection is nice, but just not enough.

Sweet Music Roll On 26 Feb. 2001
By "figtreejohn" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
He's an institution in Ireland. That wonderful deep expressive voice, he's mostly an interpreter of otherpeoples songs, but can write with the best of them (lisdoonvarne is the barnstormer here). This collectionis great as an introduction to his work, his soothing tone and subversive taste in material will bring out the activist in you, never falling short in quality. No filler. For those who want more, check out "Prosperous" andthe subsequent Planxty records, a band he formed in the 70's that spearheaded the Irish folk revival. Of his later post-Planxty solo work "Ride On" is my favorite. Very Political yet drenched in melody and traditional arrangements. As for this hits collection the true standouts are "Natives" which will bring you to tears, "City Of Chicago" written by his brother Barry (who changed his name to Luka Bloom) and the awesome "Sweet Music Roll On" which contains my all-time favorite vocal, you will fall in love with this man. Enjoy!

Wide variety of styles on one c.d. 26 Oct. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I wanted to get an Irish c.d. for my mother-in-law for Christmas. My brother-in-law is an avid Irish music fan. He is hip to the Irish scene in Boston. He told me to get her a Christie Moore C.D. The C.D. came to the house, and to my suprise Christie Moore is not a female. I was quickly impressed with his voice. He has a voice that is rough as sandpaper when he wants it to be, or as smooth as silk for a ballad. I liked most of the songs on the C.D. Most of them were not composed by him, but come from leading composers in Ireland. I especially liked Biko the song dedicated to Steven Biko. It rivals the Biko song done by Peter Gabriel. I also like the one song Moore himself composed. A good beer drinking pub song if I ever heard one. Since I am not familiar with too many popular Irish composers I don't know how he ranks abroad. But to my U.S. ears he is very talanted.

Soothing Irish voice with strong Irish thoughts. 10 July 1998
By Brian Crehan (bcrehan@azstarnet.com) - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Christy Moore's voice is a pleasure to listen to..the brogue enchants, the music transports you to the Ireland of yesterday and today. The lyrics are the key to understanding the Irish feeling of wanting peace but remembering past and present outrages visited on the Irish Catholic population. While lamenting the loss and pain of the Irish struggle Moore reminds us that "only the very safe can talk about wrong and right". This album is a plesure to listen too, but will makes you think and feel also. You will listen again and again.

Christy Moore is a true artist 24 July 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
After being introduced to Christy Moore at a summer camp with several Irish staff members, I immediately fell in love with his music. His sense of humor tempers the harsh reality that his songs reflect. Although Christy has been around for years, my summer camp staff and I agreed that he is still enjoyed by the old as well as the young and his music is still going strong.
