which aims to:-

'retell the stories of fascinating people bringing them to life so vividly,......it's as if you're there..'

'In 1492 Christopher Colombus set sail across the Atlantic, on a voyage into the unknown. He was looking for a quicker route to the Indies.
What he found was a whole New World...'

Durable board covers, open to 64 high quality pages, split into 8 main chapters:-

(1) Going to sea
(2) A royal request
(3) The first voyage
(4) Land ahoy!
(5) Triumphant return
(6) The battle for Hispaniola
(7) Fall from glory
(8) The final voyage

culminating with a useful and well-summarised 2-page timeline, entitled, 'My life at sea'.

This super book also includes three maps:-

The route of the first voyage : 1492-1493
The route of the third voyage : 1498-1500
The route of the fourth voyage : 1502-1504

Vividly illustrated throughout, with some cartoons, this is one title in a series proven to double up as a useful 'quick reference', when required.
Clear easy to read text, with a recommended age guide of 7-11 years.

Other titles include:-

Winston Churchill(Famous Lives)
Captain Cook (Famous Lives)
Nelson (Famous Lives)
Alexander the Great (Famous Lives)

Teacher review 10 April 2010
Format:Hardcover
The 'famous Lives' series of books has always proved a useful tool when teaching about characters from the past.
Christopher Columbus does not disappoint. It sets out the life story of the great explorer and tells the story of Columbus discovering America in 1492.
Children aged 8 -9 could read the book themselves and used it for research when writing information texts about subjects of their choice.
Full of facts, yet child friendly.
I would recommend this to teachers who are teaching the QCA unit 19 Tudor Exploration , as it tells of life at sea and why explorers explored.
A good general resource book for top juniors.
