I found the main character in this book irritating. Poppy has a chip on her shoulder about people with money and people in authority. Ok, so she became a hairdresser so she could look after her grandmother, when, she intimates that she could have gone on to do bigger and better things. She has no respect for her daughters teacher and yet her daughter sounds as though she is a pain in the neck in class. She resents people with money, for sure, they sound a bit nouveau rich but it takes all sorts to make a world. Yet she is very friendly with the mother of the chap that was blown to bits because of the fact that he helped Poppy. Somehow nothing rings true in this story apart from the predictable ending!
