Product Description

Robert Layton is a high-flying workaholic whose family life is virtually non-existent. Realising they are drifting apart, his wife Kate throws herself into helping their daughter's school. As Christmas approaches, the music teacher, Maggie, is diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition. Kate has taken control of the choir and the two families' lives become entwined. On Christmas Eve, Robert crosses paths with Maggie's son, Nathan, who is desperately trying to achieve his dying mother's wish. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Christmas Shoes DVD - Rob Lowe, 27 Nov 2007

This is one of my favourite films/Christmas Films of all time and what a tearjerker it is. It is a very poignant story about a mother dying of heart failure and her son wanting her to meet Jesus with a special pair of red shoes "The Christmas Shoes", that he wants to buy her for Christmas. His mission is to make sure she does, so not to give too much of the story away go out and buy this excellent tearjerker and make sure you have a box of tissues handy, you'll need them. I brought this DVD last year after seeing it on Sky Movies in 2004. It is also part one of a trilogy of films and books, the others are The Christmas Blessing and The Christmas Hope. The song at the end of this film which is just so lovely is by Newsong and I have just managed to get it on two different CD's from the USA, the first CD contains The Christmas Shoes and other christmas songs and the other again by Newsong called The Christmas Hope contains a new version of The Christmas Shoes and adds the final two songs of the trilogy, The Christmas Blessing and The Christmas Hope to it with more new christmas songs. So go out and buy them too, you won't regret it I promise.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Film Ever, 24 Dec 2007

I accidentally caught this evil car crash of a film on TV the week before Xmas. It was halfway through and I noticed Rob Lowe and despite the schmaltzy Christmas-TV-Movie trappings (snow, wise old lady giving family advice...) I thought it might be interesting.

This movie is a hideous, cliche-ridden film designed to make middle-class Middle America feel safe and comfortable. Essentially a kid whose mother is dying of cancer wants to buy her a pair of shoes so that when we goes up to Heaven to meet Jesus she'll look nice. It has been callously designed to be as emotionally manipulative as possible, using grief and weeping children to elicit emotional response from the audience.

The worst part is when the kid rushes home through the Hollywood snow to get the shoes to Mum, all to the sound of the worst song ever written - a song which tells the story of the film in clumsy, drippy lyrics. I later discovered this song actually inspired the film and had originally been a hit single.

Thoroughly horrible. If you have a real heart, do not watch this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, 26 Nov 2007
By Mr. Daniel J. Offer "Danny" (Nr Swindon, UK) - See all my reviews

The Christmas Shoes is a moving and heartwarming Christmas story, though quite tragic. It is a sad film, but has a good plot and sends a good message as to what Christmas is about. It brings up some hard topics with its real life feel. To summaries; Christmas Shoes is an emotional roller coaster with its Christmas message. Not an action packed blockbuster with loads of explosions. It's more than worth a watch.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK....
Looking at the previous reviews, people either love it or hate it. I'm sitting on the fence and saying it was OK! Storyline wasn't too predictable. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars What a nice family film
How refreshing to have a good family film without bad language, sexual innuendo or partner/spouse swapping. Be warned though, its a real weepy!
