3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of these authors 23 Dec. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm a big fan of Jill Shalvis and Kristen Ashley but both their stories in this book were a bit of a let down.
KA states she didn't know if she could write a 'short'. I can see why she thought that as this short suffers for it. If I didn't know it was by KA I would never have guessed. I didn't sense her writing style at all. It's told from Tabby's POV. We don't actually get much of Shy, he only says a few words. As in Own the Wind, I get annoyed that Tabby, a grown woman, refers to Tyra (Tack's wife) as Ty-Ty! The best bit about this story was again, how great KA is at writing kids. Her description of Tyra & Tack's kids excitement on Christmas morning was spot on! I will say KA's story is the best of the four but still lacked something for me.

Jill Shalvis' story was lacking something and not on a par with her usual stories.

The other 3 stories by Hope Ramsay, Molly Cannon and Marilyn Pappano were just OK, nothing special.

There is an extract of each of the authors other books at the end of their stories (for KA, it's an extract from Own the Wind).

Overall, I would not recommend this anthology and if you are new to KA, please don't let this short put you off and do read Own the Wind and her many other great books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sugary Sweet 22 Dec. 2013

As you can probably tell from the title, this book is a collection of Christmas stories from a variety of romance authors. I was really excited to read this book as Kristen Ashley; one of my favourite authors was featured.

Before starting this book I was expecting it to be a sugary sweet collection of books to get everyone in the mood for Christmas, and boy was I right!

With the exception of Kristen Ashley and to a lesser extent Molly Cannon, all of these stories were very fluffy (i.e. a bit Mills and Boony for my taste) and were quite superficial; I suppose you have to expect this really for an anthology, there's only so much you can fit into 60 or so pages!

As previously stated Kristen Ashley is one of my favourite authors, so I was predisposed to like this story; and I did! the two couples in this book (Tack & Tyra and Shy and Tabby) are some of my favourite of this authors characters so I was thrilled to have a snapshot into their Christmas story and catch up with the characters stories.

Molly Cannon's 'Have Yourself a Messy Little Christmas' was a good little read as well, i really liked the characters and storyline but was slightly disappointed in the sickly sweet ending.

Overall, I would recommend this book to fans of the individual authors, but don't expect much depth to the book. It does however get you into the Christmas Spirit!

My rating for this book is: 3 out of 5 stars as I really only liked two of the stories.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas to remember 15 Jan. 2014

Five tales each followed by an excerpt from a book by the same author. A reasonable read but the stories themselves are quite short. Some are definitely adult romances.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM by Jill Shalvis: Ian's a firefighter - when Christmas lights overload faulty circuits in an apartment building, the girl who turned him down is trapped inside the burning edifice.

EVERY YEAR by Kristen Ashley: Tabby and her fine man Ty are having a Christmas with her family in snowy Montana.

SILENT NIGHT by Hope Ramsay: Mayanne's car dies near Last Chance, South Carolina, with a snow front approaching. Walking with her three-month old son Joshua, she just hopes her cousin Jennifer will open the door to her. She holes up in the wrong barn and Daniel finds her when he returns from buying groceries for a lonely Christmas dinner. This was the tale I preferred.

HAVE YOURSELF A MESSY LITTLE CHRISTMAS by Molly Cannon: a professional organiser is the family's present for the most cluttered single man in town!

A FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS by Marilyn Pappano: a new paediatric doctor arrives in Tallgrass, Oklahoma, where he meets a young war widow bringing up her son with the community's help... and she's dressed as an elf.
