Amazon.co.uk Review

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is undeniably one of the most famous and unforgettable of Christmas stories, and is as familiar to children as it is to adults.

For a really special reminder of the tale of Ebeneezer Scrooge and the spirit of all things Christmas, take a look at this stunning picture book illustrated by Christian Birmingham.

Birmingham, one of the hottest talents in children's publishing, brings a fresh eye to the old tale, using depth and passion in his bold, rich artwork with its breadth of blues adding further atmosphere to the tale of a bitter, unhappy man who is forced to look himself in the eye.

The black and white line drawings on each page of text are equally as impressive and add to the mood of the story, beautifully and clearly retold by Jane Parker Resnick.

This gloriously lavish version of the classic Christmas tale is perfect for sharing with younger children, and would make a truly special gift for almost anyone who enjoys the luxury of stunning illustration. (Age 5 and over) --Susan Harrison

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Classic brought to life..., 28 Mar 2006
By
This review is from: A Christmas Carol (Hardcover)
If you love Dicken's A Christmas Carol, yule love this version.
Absolutely breathtaking artwork brings the story right off the page.
I have many illustraed versions of the story, but this one is the best! It's like a Disney classic compared to a weekly (weakly) kids cartoon show.
I think it is the sheer quality of the art that elevates it above all other versions.
The illustrator, Christian Birmingham has also illustrated the American classic 'Twas the Night before Christmas', using the same gorgeous artwork.
Get them both, you will NOT be dissapointed.
Ho Ho Ho!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for kids!, 4 Dec 2007

This review is from: Charles Dickens' A "Christmas Carol": A Young Reader's Edition of the Classic Holiday Tale (Hardcover)
This edition keeps all the music of Charles Dickens' language but the illustrations make it more accessible for kids. That said, the language is still very challenging so expect to do a lot of explaining. The exposure to classic literature is well worth the effort tho!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice "adapted" version, 12 Jan 2009
By J. Hall "toddler books" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Charles Dickens' A "Christmas Carol": A Young Reader's Edition of the Classic Holiday Tale (Hardcover)
This version was "dumbed down" a bit for younger kids, but sticks fairly closely to the original language. I read it to my 5-year old at Christmas and it was probably a bit too old for him. I'd say this version would be good to read to about a 7 year old or for a 9 or 10 year old to read on his or her own. Illustrations were not that impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas Carol, 8 Nov 2000
By Kimberley A. Smith - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Charles Dickens' A "Christmas Carol": A Young Reader's Edition of the Classic Holiday Tale (Hardcover)
There is something for everyone in this book. It contains the story of a mean man who receives redemption. Ebeneezer is able to change only with the intervention of three ghostly visitors. They come to him and show his past, present, and future. Throughout the journey, the reader has a chance to see possible mistakes that Scrooge made and how he has suffered from it. This is not only a Christmas classic, but a human nature classic.
