5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely book 12 Mar 2013
I was given this book by a friend and am absolutely delighted with it. I have a small garden and so containers are important to me and all the helpful advice is invaluable. I, too, use many different articles in which to grow plants and will make use of the fresh ideas that are shown in this lovely book. My daughter, who is just starting out with a tiny garden, also has a copy! The illustrations are inspiring and beautiful, delightful to look at especially as the weather outside is so cold at the moment. I thoroughly recommend Christine Walkden's latest book to beginners and seasoned gardeners alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book 13 Mar 2013

This is a wonderful book I would highly recommend to others. As someone with a small garden who relies upon containers for seasonal colour, this book will prove a godsend for ideas and tips of how to get the best from containers.
I grow the usual bulbs and flowers but the section on growing your own lunch is inspirational to someone who has only grown lettuce and the occasional tomato!
I particularly like Christine Tips on every page - precise and to the point, and extremely useful.
It really is a no nonsense book packed with advice, and beautifully written and illustrated.
A winner in my eyes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to get going! 11 Mar 2013

I bought this book as a gift for a friend after hearing Christine Walkden on Midweek, she sounded so passionate about her subject. But now I will have to order another because I found the information SO helpful. Thank goodness it is a HARDBACK because I have thumbed through it many times already (Amazon - why do you put it as a paperback??? - but it was a pleasant surprise). There are simple ideas for bulbs and unusual flowers, plants to attract butterflies and ideas to get children planting. Christine Walkden isn't just a flowery person - her practical approach has inspired me to start growing my own lunch. The chapters on how to grow vegetables and fruit in boxes and tin cans are really clear - on how to prepare the containers, and which varieties will be suitable for small pots and crates. I just want this horrible weather to end so I can get out there with this book and sow salad leaves, unusual tomatoes, artichokes, beans, beetroot, peppers, carrots...Buy two copies - one for yourself and one for a friend!

3.0 out of 5 stars a bit disappointing really 31 May 2013

I'va had a lot of problems container gardening and hoped this would address some of my questions about feeding, type of compost etc, but it takes a broad look at the subject without much depth. If that is what you are looking for, it is good and there are some good tips.
