Synopsis

It is the first analytical, serious and uncensored look at Christina's life and her rise to the pinnacle of the pop world. A controversial and elusive figure, Christina Aguilera has polarised and mesmerized audiences since the beginning. While fans praise her sultry, soulful voice, a growing contingent of detractors finds her whole persona tacky. Even other artists, including Eminem have openly proclaimed their dislike of her; and her idol, Mariah Carey, refused to talk to her. Love her or hate her, Christina's success is without precedent. Millions and millions of her albums sold worldwide. It seems that everything she touches turns platinum. Author Pier Dominguez traces the construction of a 21st century star and provides a shrewd, psychological portrait - the first analytical look at her life and rise to the pinnacle of the pop world. This biography reveals Christina Aguilera in a most intimate light, chronicling her early years, exploring her motivations and tracing the development of her career. It strips away the media hoopla and exposes the Real Christina.

"Christina Aguilera: A Star is Made" gives you all the details about how Christina fled her abusive father at age 5; cut out her first manager and later refused to give her credit; dropped her first boyfriend as her fame was reaching its most glorious crescendo; became the puppet of her record label, which attempted to downplay her ethnicity and helped her keep her romantic life secret and fired the manager who took her to the top of the charts. After an almost two-year hiatus, and after having her stardom carefully constructed by the RCA label, Christina has come back with an album "Stripped" that is almost entirely her own creation. The question Dominguez provocatively poses is, Will she shine as brightly on her own?

5.0 out of 5 stars Serious look at American pop star, 18 April 2003
This review is from: Christina Aguilera: A Star is Made (Paperback)
I bought this book because I'm somewhat of a Christina fan, but I wasn't expecting much because it was a pop star biography and we all know what kinds of rubbish most of those lot are. I was taken aback completely at the introspection and reporting skills in this book. The book not only does justice to Christina's life- showing both the "dirrty" and "beautiful" sides of the singer- but it also provides a good look into the American pop music industry and shows how Christina managed to transform herself into her own person. Honestly, give this book a chance- it's not just one of those fan biographies.

This review is from: Christina Aguilera: A Star is Made (Paperback)
I'm amazed that I haven't heard more talk about this book. I'm a huge Christina fan (more now than ever) and this book describes in a very engaging prose all the trials and tribulations of Christina's journey. I've never seen such a well-written book about any pop star and I hope this book is part of a series or something. This book also gave an interesting perspective on the cut-throat music industry in the States. A very enjoyable read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Christina will keep on singin' her song, 16 April 2003
This review is from: Christina Aguilera: A Star is Made (Paperback)
I've always been a huge fan of ms Aguilera, most because of her extrordinary talent in singing -there's no point comparing her voice with others, and by letting the beautiful tones from her latest album "Stripped" passing through my head, I didn't have to think twice when I laid my hands on this autobiography in the store. And I was taken, I was glad to see I got to know everything I wanted about Christina, getting to know the person behind that amazing voice. Because she ain't just a pretty face; this woman can sing like no other and it's about time the world opens up for her.
