Award-winning actress Geraldine McEwan stars as Miss Marple in four more murder mysteries from the ITV series. In 'Towards Zero', Lady Tressilian (Eileen Atkins) hosts a house party on her Devon estate, along with her companion Mary (Julie Graham) and friend Treves (Tom Baker). Heads turn when tennis star Neville Strange (Greg Wise) turns up with his second wife, Kay (Zoe Tapper), while his first wife, Audrey (Saffron Burrows), is also attending. Miss Marple, a friend of Lady Tressilian, is also in attendance, and it isn't not long before the bodies start piling up. In 'Nemesis', Miss Marple is left an inheritance in the will of an old friend, but to claim it she must first grant his final wish and solve a crime - a crime she knows nothing about except for a single word: 'nemesis'. In 'At Bertram's Hotel', Miss Marple uncovers a sinister undercurrent of corruption and murder beneath the stuffy veneer of one of London's most elegant hotels. She is soon hot on the trail of a clever criminal gang. In 'Ordeal By Innocence', while serving a sentence for killing his mother - a crime he insisted he didn't commit - Jacko Argyle (Burn Gorman) dies in prison. Two years later, the man who could have supported Jacko's alibi suddenly turns up, and the family must come to terms with the fact not only that suspicion falls upon each of them, but that one of them is the real murderer.

Some days it's just not possible to soldier on and you have to leave work early, go home and curl up in bed. This was my situation recently; what could have been a day and a half of misery was instead almost (if not for the reason I was there in the first place) pleasant. Miss Marple was a delightful distraction; the complete collection was a tonic.

I ought to point out that being off-colour is not a requirement to enjoying these marvelous tales by Agatha Christie. Bless her!

My only complaint is in the packaging. I don't like the way the dvds are contained as it makes it too difficult to swap them out or replace them securely. I have had to re-house them in cd covers to keep them safe.

First things first: this is a wonderful collection of 8 episodes of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple starring Geraldine McEwan.

The box set is entitled; "The Complete Collection" because when the box set was issued in 2006 it did contain the complete collection to date in 2006: that being 8 dvds - series 1 & 2.

So to those reviewers who complain that Amazon is misleading the public I say this. Amazon is selling this dvd box set as well as thousands of others. They do not produce the dvds, package the dvds and certainly do not provide the titles on the boxes.

It is up to the buyers or potential buyers of any single dvd or multiple box sets of dvds to check the product details in the description section... which by the way Amazon UK does a wonderful job in listing.

Check the issue date of the dvd or box set. If it is not recent then continue to scroll down the list of dvds or box sets under the same subject: ie: "Miss Marple Geraldine McEwan" and see if any other box sets have been released later containing more dvds and or more episodes.

If those leaving negative comments would have done this they would have seen that another box set of the Geraldine
McEwan Miss Marple entitled "The Collection" had been issued in 2009 with 12 dvds - series 1, 2 & 3.

Again; it is buyer beware and those negative comments directed towards Amazon should not have been written.

Finally; I add one further note to potentially save buyers some money. Sometimes... it may be less expensive to order from Amazon the older "complete collection" with the 8 dvds + the 3rd Series containing the extra 4 dvds rather than ordering "The Collection" with all 12 dvds.

This last point can be said about any television series of dvds that continue over the years.

I totally agree with other reviewers that the constant change in release dates for Marple Series 3 is very annoying. I have no idea why dvd companies do this. However all is not lost, there is an American dvd which contains all 4 episodes of Marple series 3 available. This item is listed on Amazon and isnt over priced. A word of warning - being an American dvd it is region 1 coded and will on play on such coded players, so please make sure your player is compatable.

The 4 episodes in the series are:-
At Bertrams Hotel which has been shown on UK television. A good episode which has been changed quite alot from the original Agatha Christie novel. The music score is excellent.
Ordeal By Innocence - this novel didn't feature Miss Marple but the adaption is good and Miss Marples inclusion fits in nicely. This story has been shown on UK television.
Towards Zero hasn't been shown on UK television yet so I won't give away any plot details. The story is in my opinion the best in this series and features the great Tom Baker as a guest star.
Nemesis also hasn't been shown yet. The story has been changed quite alot from Agatha Chrisite's novel but is again very enjoyable.

So, all in all this is the best series so far. I have rated this item 4 stars based on the quality of the programme rather than the UK dvd. Don't be put off by the changes to Agatha Christie's classic novels just sit back and enjoy some great drama with a top notch cast.

I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy these Miss Marples as much as the originals but this is a great collection, Geraldine McEwan plays the part brilliantly.

Simply for me.............as for many others Miss McEwan is my favourite incarnation of Miss Marple, next to Margaret Rutherford>
BUT in roles such as this it is personal reaction to the portrayal. Miss Marple is not a real figure so however one may disagree with any of the performances of the part it is not "inaccurate" merely not the way the reader saw or interpreted the character.
The are some gems in these versions of the stories; I especially loved At Bertrams Hotel.
Anyway - I love these and play them in rotation at regular intervals.

I enjoy this program very much and trusted the title "THE COMPLETE COLLECTION" but this is not the COMPLETE series because I only found out afterwards there is a THIRD series and it is not included in this set ... so how can it be COMPLETE? I wasted my money because I already had the first series, but was willing to by the box set so I would have ALL series in one set. (Which obviously, I still don't have.) I am so disappointed.
