I adore Anne Rice and I'm fascinated by her quest to write Jesus's story, from his point of view. It's inspired, and while this book is a bit slow and makes you question if you are sticking with this just because it's Anne Rice, it really is worth it if you have any sort of religious curiosity. I have to say, this book made me see Jesus as a man, rather than Christ the Lord, which is surely what the Bible tried to get across! It feels much more "real" than the stories I learned at school. It's very thought provoking, but still feels like a warm-up to the main action. If she writes at this pace, it's going to take decades before we get to the resurrection! But, Anne, I applaud you, and I look forward to the next installment. Rather this than some of the self-indulgent, lengthy prose you've written in some of the latter Vampire/Mayfair stories. Bring on the feeding of the five thousand!
