Dr Chris Williams is Professor of Psychosocial Psychiatry at the University of Glasgow
Chris is a past-President of BABCP - the lead body for cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)in the UK (www.babcp.com) and is an expert trainer, teacher and accredited practitioner. He is passionate about looking at ways of making CBT easier to use and access. His books aim to communicate key principles of CBT in practical, compassionate and easy to apply ways.
He also leads an extensive programme of research at the University of Glasgow that focuses on how to improve outcomes using a range of easily accessed books, DVD's, classes and computer-delivered self-help resources including the free access www.livinglifetothefull.com website which receives around 3 million hits a month.
His work includes the development of the five areas approach to communicating CBT, and the application of this transdiagnostic model across low mood, anxiety, eating problems, chronic physical health problems as well as weight loss, alcohol problems and smoking cessation courses.
Together his CBT self-help resources are amongst the most used in the UK and are widely used in many English-speaking countries. Translations have been made into 6 languages. He is also Patron of the charities Anxiety UK and Triumph over Phobia.
