Don't buy this DVD if you're expecting a concert performance - that part of the recording is only about 20 minutes long.
The main part of it is a superb 75 minute documentary which tracks the entire process of recording 'Stony Road'. There are masses of guitar snippets and peeks at the musicians working (and arguing) in the studio. Rea's understanding of how the blues evolved from the Delta up to Chicago is a revelation.
If you're in any way interested in either the recording process or the ways in which a musician sets out to achieve and communicate his vision, then this is the DVD for you.

A master at work! 4 Nov 2004
Format:DVD
I was first turned on to Chris Rea's music in 1988 with the CD "New Light thru Old Windows". I have been a fan ever since. I believe he is as good as Clapton if not better. This new DVD, "Dancing Down the Stony Road" is a true masterpiece. It is insightful, delightful and fulfilling. This man is a legend in his own time. I am thankful he beat pancreatic cancer and continues to make his wonderful music. I enjoyed watching how he made the music and what instruments he needed to capture the Misissippi Delta Blues sound. This is a must buy for any Rea fan.

Rea-Guts and Glory 11 July 2003
Format:DVD
I have been a Rea fan for 20 years now and he has rarely disappointed me. "Dancing Down the Stoney Road" gives Rea fans a unique insight into the making of his music as well his complete devotion to blues--particularly Missisippi Delta blues.

What I found interesting about Rea was his knowledge of music and how blues came to be. A true student of the blues. "Dancing Down the Stoney Road" was shot using film and the quality is outstanding. If you want to know where Rea has been musically and where he is about to go--this DVD is for you. Watching this artist at work was truly pleasurable and insightful.
