Product Description

Product Description

It's a sad fact that not everyone can become World Individual Speedway Champion, but that doesn't mean that the sweet taste of success will not pass your lips. Chris Morton is regarded as one of Britain's greatest riders as he won almost every title except the world crown. He was a respected rival, talented racer, and one of the most exciting riders of his era. His services to the sport were honoured when he was awarded an MBE that sits alongside his many national and international honours. He writes honestly about his desire to ride for his beloved Belle Vue Aces team in Manchester, the pride of becoming England captain, winning gold medals in the World Pairs and the World Team Cup and other countless national honours. He raced during a prosperous period for the sport; during a time when speedway was arguably at its most competitive and he performed alongside, and against, some of the sport's greatest riders. In "Until the Can Ran Out", Chris talks sincerely about his speedway career that began as a youngster on a piece of waste ground near his home and saw him race all around the world. From a small village in Cheshire, to the glamour of the world's speedway circuits, this book takes the reader on an enthralling journey to the highest level of speedway racing - a ruthless place where all that matters is to be a winner.

About the Author

Chris Morton: Awarded an MBE in 1992 for his long and distinguished career as a Speedway rider, this book is a natural conclusion to that career. Most of his racing profession he spent with the famous Belle Vue Aces of Manchester and was a regular choice for England and was also national captain. During his time as a racer he also wrote some columns for the sport's press and local media. This is his first book and he lives with his family in Cheshire. Brian Burford: Brian has collaborated with Chris on Until the Can Ran Out, and this is his fifth speedway title. His last book, No Bull - the Authorised Biography of Billy Hamill was described as 'a racy read, fascinating, graphic and sometimes shocking.' His other books include Breaking the Limits - the Sam Ermolenko Story and Peter Craven - the Wizard of Balance. A big supporter of motorcycle sport, he is also a regular contributor to Speedway Star and Backtrack magazines as well as other periodicals.

Until the Can ran out 27 Sep 2005
Format:Hardcover
I remember Chris riding at Ellesmere Port and then BelleVue, he was always exciting to watch and along with Peter Collins, the reason I kept returning to watch Belle Vue time and time again. It has been a thoroughly entertaining read, and the opening chapters about his start with PC on the farm were particularly of interest.

His descriptions of his first time on a real speedway bike struck a real chord with me and brought back memories of my own disasterous attempts.

Well done Chris a great read, I actually put down the Da Vinci code to read it.

Received the book quickly and well packaged. The book was sold as "used" but you could hardly tell, it was in very good condition. I knew the Morton family, lived in the same village, so this was a good read and nice to catch up with events.
