Product Description

Product Description

Chris Barber is the UK's premier Jazz musician and has been taking his brand of Jazz around Europe and the rest of the world since 1954. This double CD captures him 'live' at two concerts in Switzerland in the 1970s. The concerts are well recorded and feature a typical Barber programme of jazz standards, Duke Ellington material, blues, a Kris Kistofferson song, one by Fats Domino and even an early outing for 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy' popularised by Cannonball Adderley which has recently reappeared in the current band's repertoire. The band was caught soon after Chris had added the '& Blues' to the band's name with addition of blues guitarist John Slaughter. Chris Barber CDs have always sold exceptionally well and this should be no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barber at his best. 23 May 2014

An excellent dbl album of Barber in Switzerland in 1975. If you're a Barber fan and don't have this, then buy it with assurance. You wont regret it. John Slaughter (Gtr) is at his best and provides a terrific solo on the Johnny Hodges tune "Jeep's Blues" For me, worth the price of the album alone. Halcox is in fine form, as is Mr Barber himself - listen to his solo on "Mercy Mercy Mercy" taken at slow tempo. The audience were with the band all the way, and it shows!!
