Chris Addison is, I reckon, the best standup comic on the circuit. His live shows are hilarious and genuinely intelligently witty, and he's at completely the opposite end of the spectrum to those who just stand on stage and insult their audiences.
I saw Addison's standup show this series is based on, and though the live show was, I thought, funnier, he's done a very good job of rewriting it for radio. It takes the form of a 'lecture' (albeit hilarious) recorded in front of a live audience, with recorded sections enacting scenarios dreamed up in the lectures. The best bits tend to be the lectures themselves - I found the recorded segments missed the mark occasionally - and the titles of supposed books written by his colleague, the Professor ('Toad in the Hole; a anthology of unfortunate kickboxing accidents' for example).
This is an ideal purchase for a long car or plane journey, as it really needs your full attention to appreciate; distractions will just mean you miss jokes. If you get a chance to see him live, jump at it! Please vote for this review if you found it helpful; thanks!
